I am a family therapist who wants things to improve right away, because I feel your urgency. In our work, parents ensure that children feel safe, get their needs met, and are understood; and children learn to advocate for their needs verbally instead of acting out. My favorite client is the aggressive or "out-of-control" child, whose energy makes them fierce advocates for family improvement. My preference is to work with multiple family members together, helping them change things in real life, on the spot. Baruch Hashem, this reality-grounded approach often has relatively quick results. We get things done while having fun.
I specialize in working with large families facing ADHD, attachment issues, behavioral issues, and aggression. Individual child therapy can be helpful long term, but does little to calm a frazzled home environment in the short term. I utilize a real-life approach which is grounded in the science of attachment, family systems, and behavior.
Parents like you often come to my office after a frustrating experience with the therapy field. Entering therapy, most parents are rightfully concerned about being judged negatively for failing to create the family of their dreams. But I don't see parents as "unhealthy." I see parents as overwhelmed and under-supported, and sorely needed by their children.
