I've practiced psychotherapy for over thirty-five years. Currently I work both with individual adults and with couples. When you first meet with me, I will want to understand what brings you to therapy. My style is interactive, and I believe that it is through the safety of the therapeutic relationship, that goals can be met and change can occur. Though trained psychodynamically, I am comfortable working in a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities. When long-term yearnings go unfulfilled, when we encounter inevitable disappointments; when life jolts us internally or externally; when relationships seem difficult, therapy can be enormously helpful.
Though my practice includes people with a variety of issues, I have expertise with divorcing or separated couples, which arose from my years at a court based clinic. I also have supervised psychology interns and psychiatric residents; and have taught seminars on "children of divorce" at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School.
My experience with divorcing families and earlier, with mentally ill patients, has broadened my perspective as a therapist in allowing me to see more angles of psychic pain and fraught relationships. I believe that much of life is mastering our underlying pain and fears, balancing self acceptance while pursuing growth to our better selves.
