I use a psychodynamic approach that helps one understand how prior relationships and experiences understandably influence present day life. People come to see me to better understand themselves as well as feel and function better. Working together, we often find that the person has certain ways of dealing with life that hinder rather than help them have a fuller life. I help people understand why they feel, think and behave in ways that may have gone unexplored up to the time they see me. It is important to understand how culture, family, gender, and race affect one's life.
I am an ally to create a safe, trusting space where anything can be explored, felt, imagined or examined. Each person is a unique individual who may want to change lifelong ways of coping that are not working. Often, together we find that the past has been interfering with the present and interfering with taking pleasure in life.
I believe that a patient has to like and trust me as a therapist.. Patients tend to find me smart, warm, interested, sometimes funny, and easy to talk with about their concerns. I am committed to helping people feel better and over the years have worked with people who progress through their treatment to a fuller and better life.
