Every child can learn ways to interact positively with other children. By using a combination of play therapy, dance/movement therapy, and cognitive-behavioral strategies in the groups, children learn to be successful with their peers. I offer individual telehealth counseling sessions for parents on behavior issues and In-Office sessions for those children that need help with ADHD, Anxiety, ASD and Selective Mutism.
Dance/Movement Therapy and Play Therapy are perfectly suited for children to work through behavioral and emotional issues. Children do their "talking" through non-verbal movement - body language, breathing, and expressive movement. Play Therapy uses the child's "tools" of games, puppets, dollhouses, sand tray, and role-playing.
Dance/Movement Therapy and Play Therapy help children: 1. Express and work through feelings in positive ways to get their needs met, 2. Improve their social skills- joining in, sharing, handling teasing, body language, taking turns, 3. Learn how to handle conflicts with family and peers, and 4. Reduce anxiety.

Groups
Social Skill Groups
Children, ages 4-14, are carefully screened and placed in social skill groups according to ages, abilities, and grades. There are currently 5 concurrent groups. Groups are conducted during fall/winter, winter/spring, and summer sessions. Groups emphasize sharing, compromising, negotiating, expressing feelings, body language, conflict resolution skills, handling teasing, self-confidence and following rules of games. Any child in need of social skill building, and children with ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome participate in the groups.
