Pain is motivating and when clients are in enough pain, it is usually when they call to schedule an appointment. It takes more than intellect to change behavior, as most people know what they "should" do, yet lack the ability to take action. I believe that becoming healthy means having choices, where pain is gain and misery is optional. Whether looking for help individually or in your relationship, due to addiction, mental illness, lack of boundaries, infidelity or simply feeling stuck, it's a relief to not have to do it alone.
I typically work with addicts and/or family members of addicts that are suffering with codependency and family of origin issues. In the work we often discover that the addict behavior covers up feelings that surround unresolved trauma. I also see individuals and couples dealing with sex and porn addiction.
I work experientially, bringing action and feeling to the process rather than simply talking about it. Clients find this exciting and often feel a sense of relief. By working this way, clients can rely on their clairity that comes from the work. I prefer to work in 90 minute blocks.

Sheila B Maitland's Groups

Women's Groups

This group will be designed for adult women to look at how they show up in their relationships at home and in the world. Recovering addicts and co-addicts (anyone affected by someone else's behavior) will have the opportunity to experience clear boundaries, honesty and emotional intimacy with oneself and the other members of the group. This is a closed group that meets for 3 months. After the 3 months, clients can continue and this is when new members can join. Two individual screening sessions are required. The group is limited to 10 participants.

Mixed Gender Emotional Intelligence Group

This co-ed group gives clients the opportunity to examine their relationships and understand the emotional driver, as apposed to the cognitive driver that leads to decision making where connection is involved. Clients can explore how their family of origin training unconsciously informs how they feel, relate and respond to themselves and others. Experiential Therapy is an evidence based action-oriented model of therapy that goes beyond what many “talk” therapies access. When clients have the opportunity to share their story in the safety of their group, they have the courage and confidence to try new behavior in the world.
