I began my work as a therapist in community mental health where I saw a wide variety of individuals with an assortment of problems. I've never stopped feeling honored by the bravery and trust it takes for my clients to share their stories and embark on the difficult process of change.

I specialize in trauma, OCD and family counseling. I utilize cognitive processing therapy, a 12 session evidence based approach geared toward healing in the wake of a trauma. I also run ongoing trauma recovery groups, with a focus on helping the client reclaim themselves. I am currently authoring a book on thought-dropping, an approach to break the ruminative patterns that fuel OCD.

My clients seek insight and awareness and to affect change in their lives. I bring Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral and Problem Solving approaches and techniques to therapy. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, an accelerated processing tool addressing trauma, anxiety and depression, and use EMDR in Family and Couples work and also with children. Families and Couples are offered structural and sytstemic approaches and interventions. Work with children provides Play Therapy and Social Skills Training with Behavioral interventions. Prior to entering private practice, I worked for over 20 years in outpatient and inpatient mental health settings providing therapy to a diverse population. In particular, working with clients who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse, and how this intersects with the way they see themselves, and their overall sense of self-worth. I also have over 15 years experience working with those suffering from depression, anxiety and severe mental illness.

As a 40-something with 15+ years of clinical experience in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have found that life is a journey of learning filled with twists and turns, many of which are beyond our power and control. It seems that when we are faced with the choices that naturally proceed from this journey, often we choose something not because it aligns with our highest value, but because it protects our unspoken vulnerabilities. If our greatest loyalty lies with our greatest fear or pain, then that fear or pain holds the potential to be either the cage that imprisons us or the opportunity that grows us to a new level of development.

I have been an individual and family/couples therapist for more than 25 years - It is reassuring to see all the changes that have developed over time. There are so many options for people including brief consultations as well as video sessions. Children deserve to have a wonderful sense of " It's good to be me!".
