I have spent most of my career working with clients who have experienced trauma, sexual abuse, anxiety, and depression.
Greetings! My approach is client- centered; I work to build a positive, trusting relationship that focuses on your concerns and goals. I believe that our positive and negative thoughts often control or motivate our behaviors and feelings. if we can learn to question and change our negative thoughts, we can then start to shift our feelings and behaviors towards more positive outcomes.

I work with survivors of sexual abuse & trauma, complex trauma, PTSD, depression/anxiety, and eating disorders.
Openings available (January 2024). Please contact via email first! (Easier for me to respond and get things started). I work well with clients seeking presence, compassion, and the space for vulnerability across a broad range of presenting concerns. My personal style supports witnessing and unburdening as much as "diagnosis" and "treatment". I offer validation and acceptance within a co-created relationship. Warmth and humor are necessary touchstones while we explore the arc of life.

I see the human person as made up of body, mind, and spirit, and each dimension affects the other, especially during times of crisis, stress, transition, and disharmony. Currently I am seeing clients who have been working at therapy for a while and have made significant progress in feeling focused and grounded in their life, but also feel there is something still missing, and are able to name spirituality as the area that needs attention.

A person's strength and uniqueness are their best assets and are the foundation for their success. Each person is individual with their response to potentially traumatic event(s) and need an equally individual way of processing and overcoming the barriers that come from experiencing trauma. Each person must be given the attention, respect, and time to work through any traumatic event, which is much more successful when you have someone there to process this trauma with you. What you can expect from sitting in a therapy room with me is mutual respect, understanding that trauma is diverse, and patience since healing work takes time.

I specialize in helping people overcome complex and “difficult-to-treat” problems. Clients often come to therapy feeling "stuck" and wanting more freedom in their choices. I work with clients to help identify and bring light to the strategies that we often use to avoid our feelings and keep us locked in patterns we want to shift.

If you're reading this you're probably unhappy and hoping to make a change, or perhaps you want to experience yourself at a deeper level. I work with people experiencing a range of problems, from mild dissatisfaction to overwhelming anxiety and despair. In my experience the critical factor in choosing a therapist is fit. The best way to see if a therapist is right for you is to have an initial meeting and see how you feel.

I believe that therapy is most effective when it is empathic, collaborative, non-judgemental and non-pathologizing. I am deeply interested in the uniqueness of each human being who comes to me. By talking together in ways which nurture curiosity, compassion and insight we will look at what troubles you, what brings you hope, and which patterns of thinking/feeling/being you are engaging in that are not serving you well now.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
