It’s my fault. I should have known better. I could have stopped it. If you are here you may have experienced sexual abuse as a child or someone has forced, tricked, or pressured you into something sexual. Your mind screamed no, but your voice remained silent. Fear paralyzed you. Memories are foggy, but haunting. You feel dirty, used and ashamed. You hate your body. Anxiety and sadness consume you. It feels like you have been torn to pieces and your power taken. Every decision and feeling is followed by confusion and doubt. Can I ever trust my instincts again? All you want is to forget it happened and move on with your life.

For the past 10+ years, I have been working with people to heal personal trauma BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, sexual abuse survivors and chronic illnesses.
We all have an inner wisdom to heal. A reed, much like the story of the lotus flower, begins within murky environments and grows toward the sun through strength and flexibility to weather the storms. My intention within sessions is to build a safe, supported space to attune to any needs you have in your current journey. I welcome children, adolescents, adults, elders and couples. I am passionate about cultivating a collaborative, trauma informed and safe therapeutic space that is culturally responsive and attuned to your needs in this current journey.

I work with individual adults (18+) and specialize in trauma & sexual abuse, mood disorders, racial/cultural conflicts, shame/guilt, loss/grief.
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed from having various types of stressors that hinder us from fully enjoying and living life. At times, our problems can feel like we are facing an enormous mountain that blocks us from getting to the other side, leaving us feeling stuck and hopeless. Someone once told me that instead of looking up at the mountain and letting it block you from moving forward, start climbing, one step at a time. You do not have to climb by yourself. My role would be to journey alongside with you, guide, and help you to achieve a satisfying and fulfilling life.

I have also helped many people heal from narcissistic abusive relationships, sexual assault, anxiety and depression.
I do not shy away from clients who are truly frustrated with life and not sure how to continue on the journey alone. This planet is a tough one to be on right now and a therapeutic relationship can be a saving grace. No matter what the issue, I help clients tap into their own intuition as well as my professional insight to move matters forward. I typically explore body-mind constructs and stay curious about how the concept of energy plays into every day life. I believe trauma is a predecessor to many mental health issues, so I'm always focused on creating a safe place to explore healing the mind and body.

First I'd like to say that I'm glad you're here. Prioritizing yourself and your mental health is a vulnerable process. It is my intention to create a space with choice, encouragement, and warmth. The time we have together is set aside to address whatever stressors are most present in your life. I have experience supporting individuals of all ages struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, ADHD, and grief. In addition to counseling, I have provided advocacy and trial prep to survivors of sexual assault and other violent crimes. I'm a staunch advocate for women's rights, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities.

Most of my work is with individuals who are experiencing issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, self-esteem, family conflict, trauma and sexual abuse.
There are difficult things that are hard to talk about and you may carry them quietly for years and years. They weigh on you, causing emotional, physical and relational problems. If you've reached a point where you feel that you can no longer do it alone, I would like to help. As a counselor, I will listen, and will work together in helping you with what has or is happening. Our goal will be to accept yourself unconditionally and determine the best next steps to overcome what you are facing.

I have worked with individuals who have experienced a wide range of trauma, to include military-related, childhood and relational trauma; as well as, domestic violence, sexual assault and more.
As a therapist, I strive to break the barriers of traditional therapy by going beyond the mind and helping facilitate healing for the body as well. Research has confirmed that the body is in fact what keeps the score. I am an out-of-the box therapist that operates from a holistic healing standpoint, who believes that everyone can and deserves to heal. I work with adults of all ages to help uncover the true source of their suffering. I operate by going to the root of the problem and helping discover unidentified traumas, griefs, and unproductive belief systems that may be holding one back from living the life that they truly desire.

I’m glad to work with people who have struggled with a diverse range of challenges including depression, anxiety, gender issues, women’s issues, sexual abuse, self-harm, OCD, hoarding disorder, life transitions, and self-esteem, the LGBTQ+ population, including transgender people.
I have a genuine and enduring love for people. I understand that seeking therapy may sometimes feel intimidating, but I endeavor to create a safe, supportive space for people to explore opportunities for growth and change in their lives. I believe in helping people to find their voice, while empowering them to see the strengths that they already have inside.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
