This includes combat trauma, veterans & first responders, survivors of emotional, physical & sexual abuse, survivors of other forms of trauma or acts of violence.
Change is a choice. I believe everyone, at some point in our lives, can benefit from counseling and make positive changes. Life happens and it can be very, very difficult and even totally overwhelming from time to time. Counseling can help you navigate through those challenging times no matter the circumstances. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, overcoming abuse or a history of violence, behavioral issues, grief, difficulty adjusting, or just need to learn more healthy and effective coping skills, do consider giving counseling a try. If you want to change and are willing to truly try, that is all it takes.

I specialize in working with adults dealing with sexual abuse & assault, chronic illness & autoimmune conditions, and anxiety.
It’s like you’ve become a master at putting on a face, so that no one sees the true pain you feel. Maybe it’s a daily struggle to make sense of everything you’re feeling. Even on your best days, it can feel like your body is fighting against you, leaving you drained and defeated. You wish you could relax or slow down, but how? What you’ve been through has left deep scars on your personal life and relationships. It’s affecting your ability to trust others and feel safe. You may find yourself avoiding family and anything that triggers memories of the past, making it difficult to connect with others on a deep or meaningful level.

It has been at the core of my work with survivors of sexual assault and continues to evolve in my current practice.
The phrase, "you are not alone," has become quite the cliche in the world of mental health, but that doesn't make it less true. Whether a client is dealing with the impact of gender identity, depression, sexual trauma, or the stresses of racial trauma, I am here to provide clients with a safe space to explore the the parts of themselves that often ignored in the day-to-day of life. Therapy is a collaborative effort that is centered on your life experience. Using skills from multiple approaches, I aim to provide support through life's difficult stressors and incredible joys.

Trauma; Sexual Abuse; Grief; Anxiety.
Every one has come face to face with the fear of failure, or defeat. The fear that says we aren't good enough. We have been trained either we win or we lose, there are no other options. I challenge you to see the line between and give yourself permission to stand there, learn there, grow there. You only lose when you don't give yourself permission to take in the whole experience and receive from it.

Much of my experience has focused on helping individuals with mood disorders, ADHD/ADD, sexual assault/abuse, trauma, grief, and LGBTQ issues.
My focus is on meeting each person where they are at; seeing their uniqueness and strengths and using these as the foundations for bringing about desired change, acceptance, and helping one see their own strengths. I have a variety of tools in my therapeutic "tool box" and strive to use the tools/techniques that resonate most for each individual. For some it may be a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach or Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), others Mindfulness, and still others spirituality, somatic work, imagery, or art process may resonate... usually it is a combination of several.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
