I specialize in treating individuals with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger, family and marital conflict, and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and enjoy working with families and couples. I often work with people who are feeling "angry" all the time, "stressed out," and "overwhelmed" with life and I offer a supportive space and acceptance, where judgment is suspended and solutions can be found. I view the recovery/healing process from bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective, am an integrative experiential and strategic family system therapist, and a AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

Trauma doesn’t often show it's effects immediately or plainly. It is often hidden in patterns of sleepless nights, negative thinking, anxious worry, and feelings of despair and emptiness. It casts a long shadow that begins to de-color every aspect of life. Activities that were previously enjoyed are scheduled less often. You've noticed not only effects but that it has changed who you are. You’ve noticed that the way you feel about the world & others is very different. The thoughts you have about yourself are no better. And every part of life is categorized by whether it happened “before”. “Before the accident, before the bullying".

I am a generalist and work with adults with a variety of presenting issues including: relationship stressors, sexual abuse or trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, family stressors and adjustment issues. I appreciate that these issues are often complex and complicated and it might feel very overwhelming. My belief is that people are resilient, and even the most resilient people can benefit from someone listening. My goal is to hear you, support you, and give you helpful feedback and suggestions for how to make changes. I like to focus on the skills and strategies you might be underestimating in yourself.

I believe that each person is unique and I am flexible in my approach to each client's needs. I specialize in trauma and trauma related disorders. This includes PTSD, crisis, anxiety, grief, loss, child sexual abuse, low self-esteem, low self-worth, and other trauma related symptoms. I especially enjoy working with emergency service workers who are exposed to repeated trauma in their jobs, however I do not limit my practice to those workers. My services are designed to help the individual understand and successfully deal with emotional or relational problems which she or he may be experiencing. My goals are to help each client to change or adopt behavior patterns which are healthy and lead to outcomes desired by the client, and to assist the client to feel better about her or him self. I earned a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BS in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. I have significant experience providing clinical services for children, adolescents, adults and families dealing with a wide range of mental health issues. I was a clinician and program supervisor at Wake County Mental Health/Human Services where I developed and managed an innovative treatment program for children and families dealing with sexual abuse. I also provide clinical supervision, consultation and mental health trainings around North Carolina through the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).

My passion is working with clients age 13-18 as well as young & early adults. I love to work to empower clients, build insight, heal relationships & provide practical tools for clients to use as they develop into young adulthood. I use family therapy for family system work. My other client focus is on victims of sexual exploitation including victims of Human Trafficking & sexual abuse. I incorporate the dynamics of race & ethnicity into my practice and like to work with people from these marginalized populations & addressing how these factors impact treatment and resilience. My ideal client is motivated and committed to treatment.
