She treats clients with trauma and PTSD, sexual abuse or sexual assault backgrounds, substance abuse, domestic violence backgrounds, and narcissism abuse.
Stephanie's ideal client is someone who is willing to come to session and put in the hard work that therapy requires. Her ideal client’s issues and needs would stem from something personal or even an external circumstance from outside of their lives. What matters here is having courage and how her clients decide to deal with those issues and needs, because life can throw curveballs. She she hopes to bring a sense of compassion, kindness, trust, and empathy when working with these clients.

Do you feel so overwhelmed and numb that you feel everything and nothing at the same time? Do you struggle with self-doubt, low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety? My approach works to address the internal dialogue that contributes to problematic patterns of behavior and painful emotions. I understand how limiting it can be when critical, perfectionistic, or other negative self-talk inhibits you from making the positive changes that you are seeking. I aim to help you become your greatest supporter instead of your biggest critic and to learn to relate with yourself in a new way that promotes growth and healing.

In my years of practice, I have seen my clients master the tools of Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness to build happy and productive lives, with increased self-respect and positive relationships. I have spent a lifetime researching and training in the best sensitive ways to help people of all ages to heal from traumatic experiences. My own journey led me to the most responsive and humane strategies to help children learn to trust once again that adult caregivers could be safe and on their side. While I have recently retired from direct care I love helping other professionals learn how to use EMDR, IFS, Attachment Focused therapies as well as trauma treatment in general to be the most healing presence they can be for their clients.

I also have experience working with survivors of sexual assault/abuse.
Being positive does not mean you have to be happy all the time and ignore reality, it means trusting that even on the hard days, you know that better ones are coming. Having hope is such an important part of getting through the hard times. I offer a safe space for you to come and take some time to take care of yourself. I think we can all benefit from a neutral support and perspective, so we can continue to grow into who we desire to be, no matter how old we are.

I specialize working with trauma, sexual abuse, women's issues, and domestic violence, particularly in immigrant populations.
Honestly, you've probably looked through many provider profiles by now and are wondering who to pick. It can be a tough decision and so I offer a 30 minute screening phone call to help decide if we would be a good fit for each other. I'll answer any questions that you may have and will refer you to another provider if I believe that they will be better suited to meet your mental health needs. I am person-centered and will be happy to serve you along this journey, making sure that your wants and needs are heard and making sure that you are the priority in your own treatment.

We work with depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, eating disorders, bereavement, borderline, autism, ADHD, addiction, sexual abuse, DV, medical illnesses, relationship problems, LGTBQ+, adjustment disorders and forensic cases.
Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Are there aspects of your life that you are unhappy with? Are you feeling anxious, struggling to follow your dreams or having difficulties in your relationships with others? Are you struggling with the impact of past traumatic experiences? Are you dealing with chronic pain? If so, therapy can be helpful to you! My approach centers on fostering connection and healing. I prioritize a trauma-informed perspective, shifting the question from 'what's wrong with you?' to 'what happened to you?'. This approach is particularly empowering for trauma survivors, who may have received multiple diagnoses in the past.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
