Through a genuine, empathetic, energizing, and collaborative style, I help those struggling with anxiety, stress, childhood trauma, sexual abuse, and relational conflict.
It takes a great deal of strength and courage to try therapy. Turning to someone for help can be challenging and vulnerable so my job is to make this process as comfortable as possible. Are you feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by anxiety? Are you trapped by memories of your past or weighed down by an inner critical voice? My holistic approach to therapy works with you to access your inner strengths and empowers you to live more fully, and enjoy what's right in front of you. I can help you expand the way you think, and see through a new brighter lens. I work with you to remove shame and judgement and embrace life's challenges.

Finding a place we can trust to tell our stories is essential to finding a path to healing, recovery, and transformation. Therefore, it is essential to find someone that can help you reach your potential to transform your life. We all are born with an innate capacity to develop happy and healthy lives. However, sometimes life experiences such as hurts and traumas can interfere with our development and we may become unhappy or unsatisfied with our lives and adopt self-defeating thinking and behavioral patterns.

*ACCEPTING CLIENTS* We are all born with eyes, but learn how to see. Our self and worldview are shaped and molded by traumatic experiences, intimate relationships, and occurrences in the greater world around us. Our culture teaches us to conform for love and acceptance, to change our bodies and beliefs to fit the status quo, and to value working over living. Through the process of therapy, I will collaborate with you to uncover your wisest, most authentic Self and harness your strengths ultimately to learn how to navigate life’s ebbs and flows connected to your values, needs, and desires.

How are you looking to grow, change, or expand your awareness of yourself and your relationships? My work is to support and challenge; providing you with space to explore your self and connections to others, understand the story you create around your experience, and recognize patterns in your life from a foundation of support. Together, we investigate the ways you relate to others, the ties in your history that inform where you are now, and how we can facilitate healing from pain-whether that pain looks like depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual dysfunction, or discomfort in your relationships.

Pain is something we've all experienced. However, often instead of confronting and experiencing the emotions that come along with it, we tend to sidestep and ignore them. This leads to stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I work with my clients to embrace the emotions of their past and present in a safe and healthy environment, enabling them to live a more wholesome lifestyle.

It can be difficult to open up and talk about your life stressors to someone you don’t know. Sometimes we can feel unheard or alone and just need someone who can be a helping, nonjudgmental, and listening ear. The hardest part can be finding the words to express ourselves and process what can feel like a jumbled mess and you just need someone to help put the scattered puzzle pieces together to create a beautiful picture. Aristotle said it best, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” I can help with building coping skills, work on effective communication, self-expression, processing trauma/grief, and mindfulness.

From the first time we meet and throughout our journey, I will invest my full attention into listening to your unique story. This is so important because you are the expert on you. We all have the power to heal ourselves from within. Sometimes all that's needed is a little redirection and a different perspective. Other times it is necessary to learn new coping skills and approaches to difficult situations.

I continue to derive immense satisfaction from becoming a psychologist and exploring many paths and points of view about the nature of "reality", personally in my own work on myself and with others in psychotherapy (from physical/behavioral/external levels to non-physical/subjective/internal levels). People who have participated in psychotherapy with me often describe deriving value from increased awareness, insight and understanding about their past and present circumstances, both internal and external. These results have led to resolving external behavioral issues and increasing their level of internal satisfaction about their life experiences.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
