I provide a safe, trustworthy environment in which individuals, couples, and families are able to explore the challenges that prompt them to seek therapy. As a deep listener, I enjoy helping people clarify their concerns and find effective solutions. I infuse what can be serious and heavy work with humor and energy, to shift out of a focus on problems, into a focus on strengths and solutions. Similarly, my coaching, supervisory, and training style is collaborative, empowering, strength-based, and solution-focused.

I have worked with a diverse group of clients facing a wide range of struggles including parenting, divorce, anxiety, depression, trauma, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I approach my time with clients from both an individual and relational point of view. I believe it is vital to explore self-awareness and interpersonal relationships in order to understand what may be interfering with living a more fulfilling life. I understand that not everyone responds to the same experiences in the same way and that therapy needs to be designed to fit each individual clients needs based on their own histories and experiences. I will collaborate with you to make therapy a place that fits your needs.

Art Therapy, a beneficial and non-threatening alternative to traditional talk therapy. We all have the ability and creativity to connect to images generated by ourselves or by others. Art making has a primal component and brings us great insight into our inner experience. It's my passion and priority to create opportunities for others to recognize and develop their authentic self in a safe and supportive environment. My areas of focus include working with individuals, couples and families, trauma, relational, and substance dependency challenges. I also provided supervision hours for emerging art therapists.

I take a whole-body approach, which includes talk therapy, nutrition, and other treatment goals that will help you move forward in your life. The most important part of therapy is working together to develop a plan that works for your life.

Immediate Openings! Maybe you’re feeling stuck? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and anxious, wondering how you’re going to hold it all together to get through the next month or even week. Your relationships have been suffering and you find yourself irritable, withdrawn, or increasingly sad or numb. Or maybe you’ve been through challenging or traumatic experiences in the past and recognize these events are still affecting you today. You might also see these signs in your child and want to support them as they navigate challenging friendships, big emotions and stressful life changes.

Disconnection between you and what you want for yourself, or between you and someone you love, can be sad, lonely, frightening, incredibly frustrating - and even paralyzing at times. You don’t have to face this alone.

I am not a one size fits all therapist with one singular approach for everyone. You are an individual. And as such, I individualize your care. Sometimes that may involve supportive and encouraging techniques. Sometimes challenging and motivational strategies may be what benefits you most. Or perhaps nervous system exploration (such as mindfulness and sensory awareness) to refocus and silence the noise is what may bring you the most relief. I may bring expertise based on education and years of experience as a therapist and a fellow human being, but you are the expert on yourself.

Life is not easy and in this increasingly disconnected society, we often feel alone even when living among the people that we love. As an experienced therapist, I offer a connection built on honesty, authenticity, and empathy. By developing and fostering this connection, we can face your pain together while also uncovering and challenging blocks that hinder your own ability to heal yourself. I use a variety of modalities to help each person meet his or her goals, though EMDR and Interpersonal Process Therapy are my most common approaches to treatment.

“We can choose courage, or we can choose comfort, but you can’t choose both,” states one of my favorite authors, Brene Brown. I offer clients a blend of working with the mind, body and soul as a path to finding the right balance in their emotional, spiritual and physical lives. I am a Marriage and Family therapist licensed in both Florida and Connecticut for snowbirds who would like to stay connected year round.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
