BCBS or self pay only. Morning appointments open only. "We can control our thoughts and emotions or they can control us. There is a world of difference." Therapy is educational and direct with focus on cognitive restructuring and skills building. Clients usually report ease of symptoms in the first few weeks. I'm a graduate of Assumption. I've completed the Aaron Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy known to be the most effective form of treatment today. Longer sessions are also available. Some people respond better to a 2 or 3 hour session.

Waitlist for new clients
**I AM CURRENTLY FULL. MY WAITLIST IS CURRENTLY CLOSED** Working with trauma clients can be rewarding as well as difficult. Many of our clients reach a point where they can talk about their trauma but are still plagued by symptoms. Medication can help reduce symptoms. Skills building can further help. Unfortunately for some clients these interventions cannot stop the symptoms from recurring. It can leave you and your client feeling that progress has stalled. This is where Collaborative EMDR can help.

I have over 18 years of experience working in the addiction and mental health field. I am experienced in various roles across the substance use treatment services continuum of care in both micro and macro levels. I am a “big picture” clinician and believe that to effectively manage addiction and mental health it requires the ability to balance the parts needed for that individual to succeed; mind, body, and spirit. Supporting the client in identifying their unique parts to balance based on their individual needs and history is central to my professional philosophy.

I have been practicing in the field of substance use and mental health for over 9 years, in a variety of roles. Working from the perspective that each client is an individual who brings a unique set of strengths with them into the therapeutic process, my approach is eclectic and person centered ;therapy is a collaborative journey that builds on this premise. The recovery process, whether in terms of substance use or mental health, is a personal journey of growth and healing, and my goal is to facilitate this growth in a safe, healthy and positive environment.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
