Anxiety and mood disorders were my first areas of expertise. My fascination with relationships led me to study, from the lens of sex, the complicated and delicate dynamics that occur between and within people. This view point has given me a perspective on the interplay between sex, emotional difficulties, relationship patterns and attachment styles. Whether sex and relationship difficulties bring you to treatment or it's your anxiety and mood difficulties; we'll use my understanding of best clinical practices and your history to help you live a more satisfied life, inside and outside the bedroom.

I specialize in sex therapy, with extensive knowledge and skill in the areas of intentional non-monogamy, kink, and queer identity.
Connecting with the right therapist can help us lighten negative feelings from week to week. Often, these feelings can leave us feeling burdened, and reaching out to loved ones can seem impossible. Trusting a therapist enough to give them a call or an email can seem so risky.

My passion lies in helping clients struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, breakdowns in communication, relationship difficulties, intimacy, gender-related issues and sexuality.
I believe that in different stages of our lives we are presented with challenges that can be overwhelming and that can leave us feel powerless. It is also my firm belief that we all have unique strengths and resilience and that therapy can help us identify and make use of them. This then allows us to regain control of our lives and strengthen healthy relationships. Being listened to and understood by a caring professional in a confidential and safe space can bring tremendous relief from emotional conflicts and pain. Such therapeutic space can help develop a stronger self and promote constructive ways to live a more fulfilling life.

Most likely, you're wondering how I can help you. I've been practicing for over 30 years and specialize in: 1) marital and sex therapy (for example, erectile problems, painful intercourse, lack of sexual desire and am certified in sex therapy by the American Association of Sexual Educators, Counselors, and Therapists),- I'm always focused on increasing pleasure in your relationship; 2)reducing your depression, and 3) minimizing your compulsive eating (including weight and exercise management.). When we work together, I try to highlight your strengths so that you can take charge of your life and "fix" your problems.

When it comes to sex and relationship problems, many of us lead lives of quiet desperation. Sometimes you can be lying in bed next to someone and feel a million miles apart. I am a licensed psychotherapist, specializing in couple therapy and sex therapy. I am the New York Times best-selling author of "She Comes First," and I regularly contribute to major publications such as The Atlantic, The Economist and CNN Health amongst others. Talking about sex and relationships is hard, but self-silencing is even harder. My approach is solutions-oriented, with an emphasis on honest communication, and I give homework in between sessions.

I am also a certified holistic sex educator, and believe that our erotic lives are rich ground for profound healing.
I work from a trauma-focused, strengths-based somatic and relational perspective to help you release shame via self-compassion. I view even the coping mechanisms that make us feel the most stuck as examples of our bodies’ incredible resiliency & drive to keep us safe. Within the therapeutic dynamic, I seek to help you identify and unlearn harmful cultural conditioning and, with the courage of authenticity, uncover your own innate wisdom. To me, therapy is a place where we can explore creative self-expression and practice intentional relationship building in order to live more authentic, joyful, and embodied lives.

Sex Therapy

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
