As a licensed psychologist, I provide adult individual and couples therapy. I specialize in treating people who may need to change unhealthy patterns in their life, improve their relationships, explore life events that are affecting well-being, discover past issues that may be causing difficulty, and many other issues. Although I work with clients who have many different types of problems, I am also an AASECT-certified sex therapist and work with sexual health concerns. I welcome LGBT clients.

We all have different needs at different times in our lives. I offer client-centered therapy that focuses on empathy, understanding, and personal growth. Change is about hope, about effort, about personal growth. My goal as I work with clients is to help facilitate that effort as they strive for the growth they desire. I believe change occurs by awareness and establishing one's authentic vision of who they wish to be--as an individual, a parent, a partner, a friend. I work collaboratively with clients to help them bring about positive changes in their lives that make sense to them, according to their personal values.

Healthy sexuality is our objective in sexual addiction. Sex is an integral and balanced part of life experience. Sexual behaviors become problematic when they violate vows and values, are dishonest, harmful to others, put you at risk, diminishes your joy in life, act as a barrier filled with shame, self-contempt, and isolation. Sexual health creates intimacy and closeness, characterized by trust, respect, joy and safety. Sexual health can be achieved by sex addicts in recovery. The trauma and addiction model identifies the trauma and internal system that underwrites addiction and does not view problematic behavior as moral failure.

As a counselor, I believe it is my role to provide a safe and compassionate space for each person that chooses to share their experience with me. My job is to help each person I see to explore past hurts, to put voice to feelings, and to help each person make meaning out of their life. It is my belief that many of us walk this world not fully allowing ourselves to come into our own, due to a fear of not being accepted and due to limiting beliefs given to us by others and society.

I provide inclusive, secular-based therapy. I recognized a need in my community to emphasize the absence of religion in my practice, when I, myself, was searching for a counselor. I struggled with the sometimes obvious, and sometimes subtle implementation of prayer, and religion in my sessions. It felt dismissive, and invalidating. When a client comes to session with an open mind and willingness to explore their thoughts and expressions with me, in sometimes unconventional ways, amazing insights come into focus. With that, confidence in their ability to recognize their needs and meet their goals, become their reality.

Belief: life is comprised of a multitude of experiences each shaping who we are and how we engage in the world around us. We have the ability to re-evaluate and transform difficult or traumatic experiences into something new; creating a more whole self. This takes work, a desire to self-reflect, and at times, move toward change.

I specialize in assisting individuals to overcome issues that feel hopeless. I support and walk along side you to take back your life and become the person you want to be. As a person who has had his fair share of life's challenges, I found the counsel of a professional was life changing. I believe everyone is capable of change, and everyone can be successful. I believe above all else shame and guilt are the fuel that keep your problem cycling. Deshaming, celebrating successes, and setting goals are the key to moving forward. You can overcome addiction, anxiety, depression, relational conflict, or any other issue in your life.

We have a knowledge that it wasn’t meant to be this way and feel compelled to take the first steps toward wholeness but sometimes don’t know where to begin. Through compassion and empathy, I partner with clients to begin their healing journey. I seek first to understand their story, providing a safe and secure place to process the pain. It is my core belief that no problem is too messy and no challenging situation is without hope.

I aim to be the skilled confidant that accompanies them as they gain insight into their situation and who they are as an individual. Growing in self understanding helps them make decisions they can incorporate in their life and make their own. Their "new normal" becomes a way of life as they grow to employ the new tools they've gained in therapy. My ideal clients do not want psychological platitudes in the form of advice but want to be stretched and challenged.

As many differences as we all have, we all have things in common - we all have pain, and we're all made both to be healed and to heal each other. I hope to teach others to prioritize their own wellbeing because I have found when I prioritize myself that is how I help heal others. So many of us have been taught that selflessness means prioritizing everyone else first. Selflessness really means losing track of self-consciousness and ego as we pursue joy, spirituality and depth. To be selfless is freedom from guilt, shame, and self judgement.

Through one-on-one counseling or group sessions, I utilize take-home tools and day-to-day life applications to help my clients experience the freedom associated with self awareness and self acceptance. I am passionate about creating a guilt free environment and open forum for any and all discussions.

I changed my career late in life because I wanted to walk with people through life's challenges. I enjoy helping people navigate a broken relationship, addiction, trauma, depression and anxiety. Married 43 years, I enjoy seeing a couple build something new and wonderful in their relationship. I know it can happen, it happened to me.

I believe that there is currently a large population of highly successful professionals who are struggling with issues of addiction, abuse, or trauma in an unhealthy way, such as watching pornography or sex. My clients are successful professionals who have areas in their lives that have become chaotic. My goal is to accurately assess then offer personalized, safe, therapeutic interventions.

Touchstone was founded in 2005 by Dr. Cindy Baker. Her dream was to create a place that any member of the community could turn to without fear of stigma or ridicule by creating a safe setting and discreet healing environment. Telehealth permits our team to work with all Missouri residents with their counseling needs. We offer executive coaching, life coaching, community talks, workshops and seminars, anger management, court-ordered services, parenting education. Dr. Baker is offering a Mental Health Urgent Care model in her practice for extreme traumatic needs to reduce wait time for a session.
