Wellness is a matter of balance. Anyone who struggles with addiction, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or ANY experience of overwhelming emotion, can relate to a sense of imbalance. Often times we develop strategies to tip the scale. Unfortunately, we may find strategies that become part of a cycle of avoidance. I can help you break this cycle by creating strategies that promote balance, rather than a constant see-saw.

It's okay to not be okay all the time. Many people struggle with their mental health in silence out of fear of what will happen if they do say something. You are not alone. As humans we have the right to experience every emotion. We can not always control our emotions but what we can control is our reactions to our emotions.

Let our team help you find your inner strength! We have therapists on staff trained in EMDR and Sand Tray Therapy.

Hello! What a brave decision to find a therapist who can help guide you in achieving your specific goals, needs, & problem-solve issues with you. If you are looking for assistance in changing things in your life, then you've already accomplished one of the hardest parts: deciding to do something about it! It's hard to tell if I'm "the right fit" over the computer, but if you are willing to do the honest & sometimes uncomfortable work for yourself, change is possible & could mean I'm the therapist for you.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming and it can be difficult to know how to make things "feel better." I work with teenagers and adults to help them build coping skills, better manage emotions, and improve relationships. Each client is different and therefore there is no "one size fits all" approach. I will meet you where you feel comfortable and work with you to achieve your goals at your pace. It can be hard to imagine that things will improve when we're going through hard times, but I believe progress is possible for all of my clients.

Hey there, I'm Ryan! Life is full of ups and downs, situations that can really tug at our emotions and shape the way we think and act. Sometimes, these situations throw us off balance and lead to symptoms that disrupt our daily routines. But here's the good news: through a blend of supportive counseling and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we can work together to steer these changes in a positive direction. CBT is a powerful tool that helps us reframe our thoughts and behaviors for a healthier mindset and lifestyle.

I want to offer you exactly what I would be looking for, someone who is authentic and genuine and who isn't afraid to say “I don’t have the answers”. Admitting that gives you and I the opportunity to find the best ones for you through a safe and thoughtful therapeutic approach. Life is messy, love can be hard and work often feels like bullshit, (excuse my french). Therapy shouldn't be a one size fits all, and being comfortable with the person across from you matters. Whatever your need, want, or goal may be, I feel the best approach is an integrative one.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
