I view therapy as a space for you, the client to be unequivocally yourself while recognizing that there are so many internal and interpersonal factors alongside systems in place that may contribute to the pain, anxiety, and discomfort one feels. You are the most important person in your own life, and once you start to care for yourself in healing ways, this can be extended to others who you care for and love. I believe that it is important to walk patiently with every individual and I also believe that it is important to discuss how cultural beliefs and societal roles may influence one’s perception and experiences.

Have you ever experienced a difficulty that left you feeling isolated? Or a relationship that just didn’t make sense? These are all parts of being human but can leave us feeling unsettled, disconnected, confused, and hurt. I genuinely enjoy connecting with people, hearing their stories, and helping them through the hard times. Above all else, I find it important to create a safe space for my clients to feel secure enough to speak openly and show the more vulnerable parts of themselves. I do this by creating an environment of trust based on direct and authentic communication.

Hello and welcome to your first step on your journey to healing and personal growth! As we move through life our unique experiences shape us into who we are. At times these experiences can leave wounds and unresolved issues that prevent growth. I work to help clients understand that this does not define who they are but is a piece of their individual life story. The healing process can be a lonely and intimidating journey, but together we can create meaningful opportunities for exploration and a future filled with hope.

Maybe you're feeling stuck in the same cycles you can't seem to break out of. Maybe you're struggling to maintain relationships that feel safe and supportive. Maybe you know that you've been impacted by the painful experiences you've had, but you don't know where to start with unpacking them. It can be scary to face your pain, and you deserve support. You're not too much, and you're not alone. I want to support you with deepening your self-understanding and self-compassion. Healing is possible when you're ready to start.

You may have landed on this professional profile because you are taking stock of your life and realize that the life you have is not the one you envisioned for yourself. Whether you are bored or in a lot of pain, you may be seeking growth and change, possibly a sense of aliveness. Counseling can be a safe, nurturing setting to slow down and listen to your soul and your body. As you become aware of yourself, you begin to understand how you got to where you are, why you do what you do, and what new paths are possible to you. As a trained therapist from a relational-psychodynamic perspective, I see therapy as a collaborative process.

I am an LCSW with approx. 7 years of experience. I have worked with clients of all different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds and in many different settings. My therapeutic style is integrative, but I tend to pull mostly from CBT, DBT, EMDR, and SFBT. I believe that interventions are unique to client needs and it is my opinion that the therapeutic relationship is the most important part of treatment therefore I work hard to connect to my clients. I pride myself on being openminded, understanding, and relatable and push my clients to work hard towards the change they desire.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Therapy with Heart. I have a passion for empowering people to grow and make changes in their life. My style of therapy is unique because it focuses on working with you to find YOUR answers...whatever they may be. It takes courage to decide to enter therapy and until you feel safe and comfortable, it is challenging to create change. Therefore, I structure the session around mindfulness, emphasizing strengths, and collaborating together on the work.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
