My ideal client is one who commits to therapy and is willing to allow me to help them learn how to face their issues and resolve them. I believe in honesty, even if it means telling someone things difficult to hear. We must have honesty in order for me to help them help themselves. I want every client I see to leave therapy feeling as if they are a better version of themselves and enjoy their life. I tell my clients that my job is to work myself out of a job. There is a quote from C.S. Lewis that I feel describes my therapeutic perspective. "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny..." - C. S. Lewis

Video on website! When you come to therapy, you want something substantially different. You don’t want to pay for a sounding board; you want a therapist with the experience & training to dive deep into your story & bring you change. That is what I do. I use an experiential style of therapy that works well with people struggling with issues including addiction, affair recovery, trauma, abuse recovery, anxiety, attachment, spiritual growth, relational problems, and teens & their parents. I work hard to help people heal from painful wounds & problematic behaviors.

Do you feel hopeless, worried, overwhelmed, sad, or angry all the time? Do you often have conflict with others? Are you struggling with grief, painful life transitions, intrusive memories of a traumatic event or difficult childhood? Do you feel you are unworthy or unlovable? Do you need someone to help you make sense of your life? If you said yes to any of these, therapy will help! I can offer support, direction, and insight about these challenges; and can show you how cognitive errors and distorted thought patterns contribute to negative emotions and behavior problems.

Bio video on my website...When you pay for therapy, you're expecting something of tangible value. All too often what you get instead is a nice person on a couch and little else. That’s not me. With high energy and humor, I help people recover from sexual addiction; I help couples lost in conflict and hopelessness; and I help parents with teens and young adults. I work with sexual abuse, attachment wounds, and traumas/PTSD of all kinds. I am a Christian, and I approach therapy from a clinical perspective. We can integrate your faith as much as you feel comfortable, or not at all.

My ideal client is someone who is ready to make changes and see improvement in their life. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, down, anxious, lonely, or struggling in a relationship? These are symptoms telling you something isn't right, and you may need help figuring out what to do differently in order to feel better. You have probably tried several things, before seeking counseling, that haven't gotten you the results you want. Issues are always multifaceted, and it can be very difficult to figure out on your own. I will work to equip and empower you to move forward in confidence.

I consider it a joy to work with couples, families, and individuals. It is an honor when people allow me to walk beside them in their journey. I believe that each person has great worth and their stories are as unique as snowflakes. Sitting with people in their distress gives me an unparalleled vantage point from which to watch the healing power of secure attachment in the lives of my clients. Relationships provide a safe harbor for our lives and when they are strained or broken, we feel real pain. My approach provides a proven path back to healthy relationships.

Life is full of surprises that are sometimes wrapped in feelings that can truly weigh us down. Whether it's anxiety, depression, life stress, grief or past traumas- those are all curveballs that are unexpected and can make it difficult to believe that we can be in control of anything, especially our own inner peace. Therapy is a courageous journey towards cultivating internal resources that can help you with feeling connected, nurtured, and empowered to embrace change as it comes. As your therapist, it is my mission to take this journey alongside you and give you a safe space to better understand your true self.

Everyone wants to live life free to be who they are without feelings of inadequacy or guilt. The uncertainties present in today's climate show that even our children are not exempt. Societal pressures can affect the way we view ourselves and our contributions. Trusting yourself enough to know that you are doing your best at any given moment is critical to enduring these trying times.

I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body and now work with clients from 5 years to older adult healing the mind. Therapy is difficult to navigate and can feel messy for the whole system (friends, family, work, school, and more). I value your experience and how that has shaped core beliefs. Because we have these core beliefs, doesn't make them true. Let's assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole both in body and mind.

People often ask me the trick to being happy in this life... Time and time again, the old adage about "knowing the difference between the things you can and cannot change" remains as true as any I've found. Most of the people that walk into my office haven't yet identified which situation they're facing. Their anxiety, depression, relational conflict, and other struggles are fueled by their struggle come up with either a plan of action or a plan of acceptance. That's where, through a process of listening and exploring, I can help you clarify your options for finding peace.

Counseling is beneficial for anybody, even if you just need someone to talk to about stressors. To be honest, life be "life-ing!" Fear is an intense emotion that paralyzes and influences inactivity and sometimes we just get STUCK! We are continuing to become who we are everyday and at times we just are not okay. I'm ready to listen when your ready to share

Bio video on my website! In 2011, I graduated from seminary & worked as a youth pastor for 5 years. From the vantage point of a pastor, I saw the need for good, quality, professional therapy in people's lives. When you walk through the therapist’s door, you expect to be given the tools you need to accomplish change. Good therapy is more than “What do you want to talk about today?” You need to work with a therapist who has the right tools to dig deep and do some heavy lifting, and that is what I offer.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
