The problems and desires you bring to therapy are invitations to heal and grow. I'll help you respond to those invitations with creativity, vitality, and hope. Jung wrote that "The greatest and most important problems in life can never be solved, only outgrown." Such problems, he continued, "fade when confronted with a new and stronger life urge." I'll help you find those new, stronger, deeper, more authentic parts of yourself, and bring them to life.

I want to offer you more than scratching the surface, or putting a band-aid on your pain. Let's get to the root. This work is about you - how you relate to yourself and to me. It's about the pain that you've carried (consciously or unconsciously), the grief that has shaped you and the coping mechanisms and defenses that you have adopted in order to live your life. I will bring my curiosity and my awareness to your thoughts, your feelings, your behavior. Together we will get to know the true you.

I offer therapy for people looking to heal past trauma, explore their identity, create stability in their relationships, and live into their fullest expression. When people think of "healing", they often think of a serious, rigorous, and painful process. But healing can also look learning how to accessing more pleasure, play, joy, and connection in life! In addition to a clinical approach, I also integrate levity, humor, and curiosity into the therapeutic process.

My passion is helping folks from queer, trans, and BIPOC communities find empowerment, freedom, joy, and connection in the face of systemic oppression. I believe that our culture disconnects us from ourselves and from each other, and focus on helping clients reconnect. I love helping others tune into the wisdom of our bodies and emotions, and use these as a compass through difficult times. I emphasize self-acceptance and self-compassion, as well as community building. I use a warm, supportive, relational approach to help you find connection, direction, and joy in life. Like in music, sometimes in life we need to pause and listen to how the notes of our experiences resonate before moving on. The practice of pausing and reflecting offers a chance to consider the meaning of what has come before so we can more effectively engage this moment now to ultimately yield beauty and connection with life we might have never known. This is Fermata Therapy. Here we listen to the tune of your life, past and present. With pause and reflection we make space for you to discover and create what is needed—a different rhythm, key, or voice better suited to your melody—so you can live your most authentic life-song.

We often learn ways of dealing with problems that can create more trouble than we intended. Maybe you become habitually hard on yourself or those around you. Maybe you feel stuck in indecision or backed into a corner by life's demands. Maybe you have found ways to soothe yourself that aren't serving you anymore. Or you might be facing the reality of one of life's painful truths such as loss, illness or an accident that has altered your course, leaving you unsure how to face what undeniably is, or how to move forward.

We all face challenges in life, but sometimes we get stuck, overwhelmed, or notice repeating patterns that negatively affect our relationships, work, and our overall health. I work with women who feel anxious, worried, lonely, sad, not good enough, or confused about what to do next. My clients struggle with self-esteem, anxiety, hurtful relationships, family issues, difficult transitions, trauma and many other life challenges. Most women I see are looking to build confidence, become empowered to make changes, break unhealthy patterns and form healthier relationships. Counseling can be a great resource we can use to heal and grow.

My focus is on women and gender non conforming people of color, grief and loss, somatic awareness, questions of identity (racial, gender, roles, etc), family of origin issues, complex, intergenerational, and religious trauma, self esteem, attachment, relationships, and life transitions.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and compassionate space for you to re-connect with your whole self (body included!) as well as your strengths, and to process through emotions and experiences that feel challenging to face and sort through on your own. As a black mixed race person of color myself, my racial identity is a lens through which I see the work and how I show up in the therapeutic space. I have a special interest in processing through grief for those who have experienced loss of any kind. I utilize calm, reflective listening, somatic awareness, social justice and systems focus, and a strengths-based approach.

I love to work with female, male, and LGBTQ professionals who experienced hurtful childhoods or abusive relationships and struggle to let go of the past, feel "like they are not enough", "have to prove their worth", or "settle for less". I love to help clients understand why they continuously attract "the wrong partner" so they can make different choices, move on from hurtful relationships, and attract more suitable partners. I welcome polyamory, kink, and sex-positivity. I enjoy helping clients get past traumatic experiences so they can feel safe in their bodies again and courageous about taking up space in their lives.

My clients are usually the person everyone else leans on but don't feel comfortable being vulnerable with others. They find it hard to express or even acknowledge their own feelings because they're taking care of others at home, work or school. My clients are strong but need help creating boundaries so they aren't used or abused anymore. They usually have a history of rough childhood experiences they don't feel safe talking about or, don't even remember. They may not consider their past experiences rough, just things that happened.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
