I work with individuals ages 18 and over. I have a particular passion for working with people living with religious trauma, confusion about their religious conditioning or emerging from cults or cult-like religious structures. I also focus on providing care for the LGBTQ+ community and I am a non-binary member of the community myself. Additionally, I work with people navigating depression, self-esteem issues, anxiety, and trauma. I also offer gender-affirming care, help for those questioning their gender, and people at any stage of transition.

My practice specializes in gender identity development and sexual orientation. I primarily work with adolescents and young adults (as well as adults beginning to question their identity). Therapy focuses on anxiety management, gender dysphoria, coming out, improving self-esteem, connection to community, relationship skills, and the process of transitioning (if desired). Whether someone is exploring new feelings or has identified as LGBTQ+ for years, the challenges they face may bring up feelings of anxiety, stress, confusion, and even anger. Working with an experienced therapist trained in gender and sexual minority issues can help.

Do you struggle with talking about your emotions but excel at talking about the facts of your experience? When someone or something hurts you, do you try to learn everything you can about it? Maybe you’ve read articles and books, follow professionals on social media, and try to understand all the details? It can feel scary to explore our emotions, but it is possible to safely reconnect to our emotions and find healing. I love working with folks who identify within the LGBTQ+ community, as well as those who have other marginalized identities and life experiences.

We experience life through all of our senses and can enlist them in the therapeutic process to address feelings of anxiety, depression, uncertainty, grief, burnout, or anger (among many more!). I approach therapy from a narrative and expressive arts perspective. This means using visual arts, music, movement, creative writing, reading, and/or play in the therapy space, in addition to talk therapy, to assist you in exploring and rewriting the stories you engage with on a daily basis — both about yourself and the world around you. I work best with people who may have been told that they “think outside the box”.

Everyone is welcome in my office; I am honored to work with and witness folks from all walks of life. I specialize in working with queer and trans folks, especially those with neurodiversity, and people exploring and practicing non-monogamy. I'm passionate about identity development; discovering and vocalizing boundaries; and understanding how values change as we unpack internalized oppression and look at your life experiences. Therapy helps us gather an understanding of how the world views us, and reorient to stand up for our full selves.

Embarking on or returning to therapy is brave, and I'm here to go at your pace. Therapy should be a space where every part of you belongs: where you feel connected, important, and seen. My hope is that over time, you will feel safe enough with me to feel into difficult and upsetting emotions. I will move towards you with curiosity, warmth, and acceptance so that we can go to those hard places together. In our work together, we will also play, be silly, and feel into and towards joy, excitement, and hope. Please note that I primarily work with youth between the ages of 12 and 25 and their families.

I offers wholistic mental health care, including medication management, mindfulness therapy and ketamine therapy. I partner with clients to explore who they are in part by looking at the stories they have formed about themselves and their experiences. Our work together may include learning coping skills, identifying personal narratives and limiting beliefs, normalizing challenging experiences, understanding and accepting our different "parts", working with the somatic experiences of our emotions, building a supportive spiritual practice, etc. I believe in the thoughtful use of medications to support this work.

No one is broken. What does it mean to be you? What are your heart’s secret longings? What are the heavy parts you carry in your body and the hopes that you have yet to speak aloud? Healing is not linear. Let us explore the winding path that is you: in the memories of your past, in your experience of the present, and in the possibilities of the future. I am a transgender-identified therapist who specializes in work with LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. In addition, I work with trauma survivors, people who have experienced othering, and people in life transitions.

I love to work with supervisees and mentees (supervision of supervision) as we grow, laugh, and learn together. The process of deepening knowledge, experience, and wisdom can be rewarding for both the supervisor and supervisee. I approach supervision and mentorship from a structural supervision perspective as I believe we all thrive with the right balance of structure and support. I use a good amount of humor and curiosity in my approach, as I believe the elements of fun, delight, and joy are important parts of the professional growth process. If we work together, you will be challenged and you will be uplifted.

Our lives are shaped by the stories that we carry with us. Healing begins when we can safely share them with others. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process in which we get to recontextualize those stories through truthful and empowering reframes. Therapy is best done when we can show up authentically. The therapeutic relationship is arguably one of the most important factors that determine success in therapy. For that reason, I strive to create a space where there is mutual respect, trust, and authenticity.

I come to this work with a background in social work and public health, and am passionate about creating a space where my clients feel seen, heard, and validated. I have had experience both as a client and as a therapist with DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and this informs the work that I do. As someone with a background both personally and professionally shaped by trauma, I am dedicated to practicing therapy in a strengths-based and trauma-informed manner. I bring my queer and neurodivergent identities to this work and feel at home working with queer clients and non-monogamous relationships.

When the fullness of ourselves and our histories are held with care without pathologizing or othering, we can tap into all the possibilities of the people we want to become and the communities we want to build. We can always surprise ourselves in the ways we can grow and I hope to support you in being curious about what this can look like for you. Whether you are trying to figure out your support needs (and how to get them met!); wanting to define your values (and how to live by them!); or wondering what’s next in your life after feeling stuck— I want to help.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
