I'm so glad you have decided to seek counseling for things in life that are challenging. I think it's important to take the time to understand yourself in order to figure out where to go in life. My clients are sometimes unsure of where to start but need help and I am very comfortable working with you on that journey of self-discovery and working through challenges to find the more positive outcomes you are looking for. We all have challenges to face in life, but how we do that is what can make all of the difference.

My clients are typically managing mental health issues and symptoms that develop in response to life changes, identity concerns, or responses to systems they belong to. This may look like transitioning to a new city, managing a new health diagnosis, or exploring their gender. The typical clients I work with have a shared goal of wanting to learn how to better support themselves in response to environmental and interpersonal concerns. They are motivated to develop skills and strengthen their self-awareness to get to a place where they are living a life that is aligned with who they see themselves as.

I have clients, not patients, because therapy is not only for those struggling with challenges but for those who want to have a better version of themselves and compromise to do the inner work to reach the goal. I am an immigrant myself and understand how life can change from one moment to another. The key is to learn how to create resilience to cope with challenges and survive. Tengo clientes y no pacientes por que creo que terapia es no solo para quienes tienen una enfermedad mental pero para todos nosotros que queremos tener una mejor calidad de vida y aprender a crear resiliencia para sobrevivir los altibajos que trae la vida.

Is your stress getting increasingly difficult to manage? Are you finding yourself scrolling through social media too much, sleeping a lot, or avoiding what is causing you stress? Do you feel alone in what you are going through? In high-stress situations, it is common to have inner conflicts while you navigate the world around you. The overwhelm of emotions can feel unbearable. In addition, responsibilities do not stop so you manage by isolating when you can and being the person others need you to be. You’ve managed this far and now it is time to receive the support that you deserve.

You have taken the first step in charting the journey you want to create in your life. Everyone has a journey, but sometimes it appears uncharted or unknown, and we need help charting a new path. I believe counseling is about connecting with someone who can help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that impact your daily life. I recognize it can be difficult to create change when life feels as if it is a whirlwind, but you do not have to create that change alone.

Do you want to get off the emotional rollercoaster and get into living your best life. Are you experiencing effects of sexual abuse and trauma and you can't seem to get over it. Sexual trauma can paralyze you making it difficult too as some would say " get over it", . I know you can't just "get over it", because I have been there and done that. If you are having a difficult time getting past the pain and staying focused. Do you feel if though you don't know who you are and why you are here, are where to get help?

I am a therapist because I want to support individuals, couples, and families dealing with relational issues, family/relationship conflict, difficult life transitions, anxiety, and depression. Maybe you have tried time and time again to break old patterns. Or maybe you are just now noticing patterns from your family of origin you would like to break. I know that it can take a lot of energy and courage to begin therapy and I hope that my non-judgmental and collaborative approach will help create an environment where you feel safe to explore your relationships with others and yourself.

I provide full psychological evaluations for teens and adults ages 16 and up. I accept therapy clients of all ages. My main areas of expertise are ADHD, Autism, and PTSD. I am particularly helpful if you have trouble expressing yourself when anxious or stressed out. Many people "mask" their symptoms to move through life with less attention to their struggles. In an evaluation or therapy setting, it can be hard to "unmask." You can trust me to create an environment where you can feel comfortable to share and I will listen. Ultimately, I am here to understand and help you move toward your goals.

I believe the central purpose of counseling is to assist the clients I work with in identifying their own unique abilities and tools to cope with the hurdles and challenges that life brings. Each individual has the capacity to make change happen to support well being; heal from trauma and identify new coping skills. My goal is to provide a safe space for individuals to work through traumatic or difficult life experiences while helping to cultivate new avenues to overcome the things that can keep one feeling "stuck". My approach in counseling is collaborative, holistic, strength based and client centered.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Aurora?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
