These settings have given me the experience needed to work with children, adolescents, and adults that are experiencing depression, anxiety, low self esteem, burnout and self-harm or suicidal ideation.
Do anxious and depressive thoughts interfere with yours or your child's daily life? Does lack of boundaries contribute to feelings of burnout? Feeling this way can impact how we feel about ourselves and how we navigate our daily life. Let's overcome those feelings while changing your internal dialogue to increase self-esteem, boundaries, and reaching goals to live your life in a way that feels authentic for you. My goal is to create a space where you can come to share those feelings freely and at your own pace, with some gentle guidance and humor to help the process.

I enjoy helping my clients empower themselves to live the lives they wish to live, develop self-compassion, & embrace peace, frequently with the help of my therapy dog, Rockstar. I believe many stressful behaviors (e.g., isolation, eating disorders) begin as a way to cope, when we feel we have little control. Even if certain behaviors are now causing you distress, it is amazing that you empowered yourself to manage times in your life when you didn't know how else manage. Now, we can figure out new strategies that not only allow you to survive, but to thrive, in a way that allows you to feel peaceful & free.

Anger can be exhausting and damage your self esteem.
On the surface it looks like anger or constant irritation, but beneath the turbulent current of destructive behaviors are emotions like sadness and grief, pain, sorrow and fear. Anger is much more preferable if a lot of your life you have felt powerless or helpless. As you might be figuring out, the power of intense, uncontrollable anger only leads to self-destruction and can deeply hurts others. Self-destruction can look a lot like being stuck, resistance to change even when miserable, using substances, or being undisciplined. It can feel lonely.

My approach to therapy is client-centered and focuses on providing a safe and warm environment. I believe that everyone strives to be their best self, but we often experience challenges that make living our best lives hard to achieve. We will work together to build a strong relationship that provides empathy and understanding, genuineness, and is free of judgement.

Often the weight of the world can feel all-consuming and everyday tasks can come with fear and avoidance. Perhaps even the thought of reaching out to begin therapy ignites feelings of dread. However, deep down, you know you deserve better – because you do! I would be honored to navigate the anxiety, the stress, the sadness, and more with you. Together, we will build upon the strengths you already hold inside, and work to understand the thoughts and feelings that come with everything else.

My primary experience has been working with adolescents and teens. However, I find many of those same principles can successfully be applied in our adulthood. In connecting with clients, I support your self-esteem and self-discovery through a Christian perspective. Life can be a challenge at times and there is no judgement or shame seeking out therapy. Congratulations on taking the first step and acknowledging the importance of your mental health!

The challenges facing children and teens today are exceptional, as well as navigating parenting in a world bound with pressures from every area of life. Families, more than ever, struggle to stay steady, stay grounded, and stay consistent, while raising little humans to succeed in our society. As a child therapist, former teacher and parent of five myself, I realize all too well what the issues are and how children and families can be supported through counseling. Building relationships through play therapy, narrative therapy, as well as with families is the key to success in my practice.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
