My name is Toi-Shareema Grayson. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. I am a proud Black African American raised by my mom, grandmother, uncle, and aunt, whom were all instrumental in my rearing. Surrounded by hard working family is where I gained my reliable work ethic, as well as my passion to work with people. Transitioning into counseling working directly with people just made sense to me. If you are ready to unpack your concerns, work through your challenges, set goals for yourself, and begin your healing process congratulations on taking your first step.

The complexities of human nature is something that many of us grapple with. Therapy, although seemingly scary, intimidating and overwhelming at first, can lead to change, growth and a high degree of satisfaction when an individual is willing to look at themselves in a new light. I believe in treatment that is collaborative which encompasses a conversational dynamic. I provide individual, family and couples sessions for various issues, some of which include; anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, communication problems, life transitions, issues with interpersonal relationships, work stress and other stress related issues.

A need to further understand human being and to obtain further guidance to effectively navigate a world with such disparity in immoral consciousness of human beings that holds selfishness and lack of compassion. Well my embodiment of the collective religions, to have had insight or somehow this journey was written in my genetic make up or possibly the time was ripe for me to be guided towards my spiritual awareness.

Do you feel alone? Even when you’re in a room full of people? Don’t know why, but you can’t shake the feeling? Are you adjusting to a new part of your life? Having feelings of hopelessness, low self esteem, or depression? Feel like you need a drink or a few every so often? It’s totally normal and I want to work with you to create a plan for a better head space. I’m so proud of you for taking the first step and looking for someone to talk to. It may sound paradoxical, but strength comes from vulnerability. So thank you for being strong and looking to be a better version of you.

I am passionate about helping motivated adults to become unstuck, to enhance self-esteem and intimacy by figuring out their own direction, purpose and fulfillment in life. I believe that everyone deserves to feel accepted, loved, and worthy. As your therapist, I will discuss and begin to understand different aspects of your life. Together we will develop goals to overcome specific challenges for you to live a life where you feel more connected, hopeful, and fulfilled. While I work with clients of all different ages and presenting issues, a big part of my practice is supporting individuals looking to increase their self-esteem, process past trauma, or decrease levels of anxiety and depression.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
