Pamela’s focus is on helping clients improve their self-esteem and self-efficacy by overcoming the negative self-talk that can lead to feelings of frustration and low self-worth. Her style balances warmth and empathy with an active and direct approach, using humor and creativity to engage her clients in strength-based, collaborative interventions. Her method is eclectic, drawing mainly from REBT, Mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy. Pamela believes the best way for a person to explore complicated feelings is in a safe space, free from judgment.

ARE YOU BROKEN AND HURT ON THE INSIDE? On the outside everything looks fine. You look like you have it all together and to others your life looks great. But on the inside you feel overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and depressed. Are past traumas interfering with your life now? Maybe you struggle with setting boundaries which often leaves you feeling depleted and unloved. Maybe your questioning some of the choices you have made and need a space to figure out how to put your life back in order because right now everything feels out of control. Is the anxiety keeping you up at night? Is the depression starting to take you down?

My specialties include improving self esteem, life transition issues, college students at crossroads, relationship and aging issues.
Learn to treat yourself with the same kindness you so easily extend to others! You may have previously examined your childhood issues in therapy yet still struggle with your self-esteem. You may judge yourself harshly, placing your needs last. You may experience difficulties in relationships or dealing with painful transitions, or feel you have lost your sense of self. My nearly 20 years as a Clinician coupled with advanced training allows me to work with you on a meaningful and compassionate level you have not experienced previously. Learn to appreciate your sensitivities and vulnerabilities as strengths, not weaknesses.

Accepting new clients for daytime appointments only. From the outside it looks like things are going well, but you know that isn’t the whole story. Inside you're struggling with worry and feelings of unease and insecurity. Maybe you feel sad or on edge, and can’t focus on the things you love. Perhaps it feels like the world is caving in on you as others look on. These are just a few symptoms that are familiar to clients who seek therapy with me. Although I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients, I specialize in working with young adults who struggle with traumatic memories, anxiety, depression, self-harm, and low self-esteem.

With a background in research, supervision, consultation of peers and direct clinical work, the focus of my work is persistent difficulties related to self esteem, relationships, sexuality and living fully beyond recovery from various addictions.
Being rather busy with life's responsibilities, we often neglect to integrate certain troubling experiences; we notice but try to ignore. This may work for a while; yet, without realizing it, we expend valuable amounts of mental energy to push this "stuff" away. Soon unpleasant feelings of worry, helplessness and frustration begin to color our daily life. Working together, we will be able to take care of that "stuff" so that the mind and the body may work optimally and in harmony. You will begin to feel good again being calmer, energized and optimistic.

We receive many messages from our loved ones and society about who we are and who we should be. These messages can make us feel stifled and pressured to conform to others' expectations to fit in or feel worthy. It is isolating and painful when our true selves don't align with others' expectations. This pain can cause us to hold negative beliefs about ourselves, isolate ourselves from others, and avoid trying new things. This pain keeps us from embracing our life, relationships, and ourselves. The path to embracing your authentic self starts here.

My holistic approach is based in attachment theory and mindfulness, incorporating your past experiences and relationships, trusting you to be the expert in your own life. This garners a strong partnership from which to begin the exploration process. While I utilize short-term cognitive strategies to alleviate immediate concerns, there is often work to do that involves a deeper look. I work collaboratively with you, tackling obstacles, both internal and external, concrete and unconscious, on the path to fulfillment and discovering your true, authentic self.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
