Sarah is a warmhearted and attentive therapist who is curious about your individual experiences and looks to identify your strengths so you can feel empowered and encouraged to overcome challenges. She has over 10 years of clinical experience and specializes in working with children. Through play therapy, she has experience helping children to overcome symptoms related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger/aggression, compulsive behaviors such as skin picking or hair pulling, sexual abuse, family conflict, and more.

Working with those who struggle to overcome the trauma of abusive relationships has been my life dream. However, trauma comes in many forms and leaves ugly scars that wreck havoc on our lives, but it does not have to control our lives. We can be overcomers! Working from a Mindfulness/CBT and person centered perspective allows us change the way we think about our past and regain control of our future.

If you are a parent who is exhausted, worried, and confused by your child's behavior, I can help you make changes that make a difference. Using current science about how the brain works, I give you the inside story of what's happening when your child is falling apart. When you can see behind the behavior, you can more easily understand what the child needs you to do. You'll learn tools for understanding your child and tools to help improve their connection to you and to themselves. I specialize in children and adolescents struggling with anxiety and mood disorders, life changes, adoption issues, trauma, grief, and multi racial children or children being raised by caregivers of a different race. I provide experiential therapy to assist kids who do not connect via traditional talk therapy. I provide methods such as equine therapy and outdoor therapy, as well as incorporating elements of play therapy, art therapy, and music therapy.

At New Directions Counseling Center our focus is to create a therapeutic environment for children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples to explore new directions and create positive changes in their lives. I desire for my clients to get to the place where nothing is hindering their ability to live, play, and love well. EMDR is one of my favorite modalities to use in counseling. I believe it offers a different approach than traditional talk therapy that can help you get "unstuck" from negative thoughts or beliefs.
