You: look great on paper, but deep down you're struggling and ashamed to admit it - especially when others have it so much worse. You're sensitive, idealistic, and creative. You're aware of your potential and people reflect it back to you, but you're having trouble finding traction. You're not connecting with your work the way you want to, and your co-working relationships are "fine," but not satisfying in the way you'd like them to be. It feels like something's missing, but you don't know what and you don't know where to find it. Behind the mask, you feel scared, sad, lonely, insecure, anxious, depressed and may be losing hope.

My work is ultimately about mindful, skillful, and balanced living. Life is short-- I want my clients to enjoy the process regardless of what life throws at them. I help people move beyond difficulties such as substance abuse/other compulsions, excessive self-criticism, symptoms of depression and anxiety, difficulties with relationships, trauma, and other human struggles. My approach is authentic and warm yet exceptionally direct. I'll help identify inadequate coping patterns so you can replace them with proven skills that lead to high quality living. The ultimate goal is radical self-love/acceptance.

I imagine you’ve been hard on yourself lately. Thoughts like, “you’re not good enough” or “you should be over this by now,” play on repeat, unchecked. My approach is one focused on self-compassion, the art of reworking internal monologues to respond to yourself in a gentler, more understanding manner. You may not feel ready or deserving of treating yourself more kindly, but I would be honored to hold that warm space for you until you are.

I particularly enjoy working with young adults who are going through a difficult time navigating the transition from early to mature adulthood, perhaps wrestling with issues around relationships, work, family, self-identity and performance; struggling with chronic feelings of anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem; or feeling they don't have the tools they need to manage life. I have over 25 years of experience working with both women and men; all are welcome.

Are you experiencing fight, flight or freeze responses to everyday life stressors, or feeling paralyzed to make change? EMDR therapy for trauma and PTSD could be a great fit for you. Unprocessed traumatic memories can get "stuck" in your nervous system, causing you to operate from survival mechanisms that no longer serve you, and which block you from reaching your full life potential. Whether you're hoping to resolve trauma, reduce your "inner critic," find more purpose and meaning in your life, or improve your relationships, I'm here to guide you toward the growth and healing you seek.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
