I specialize in; general psychotherapy of personality problems, phobias and anxiety states, relationship loss trauma, medical illness and surgical stress, adult and adolescent creative work blocks, self esteem issues, academic problems, parent-adolescent communication problems, male and female infertility, cognitive behavior therapy failures.
Allow me to tell you about the essence of choosing a therapist, and being in therapy. It’s quite similar to forming a good friendship or relationship. Chemistry between both people is of the essence. After determining the therapist’s credentials ,training ,and experience, it will be the experience of feeling compassionately understood, accepted, and the sense of the right emotional fit, that will determine the choice and outcome. And therapy is all about the quality of the relationship from start to finish. That being said, years of clinical, teaching, and training experience contributes much to my therapeutic effectiveness.

I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are struggling with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I have a lot of experience and enjoy working with young adults with self esteem problems, relationship issues, difficulty finding direction in their lives. Growing up in France and moving to the US as a young adult I am keenly aware of issues of adaptation. My personal experience as a child survivor of the Holocaust during WWII in France has also sensitized me to issues of trauma, to struggles to adaptation, to courage and perseverance. I especially liked an aspect of US outlook on life which provided possibility and flexibility in life choices

I provide telehealth services in New York (Headway.co) and in-person services in Maine (PenBayMusicTherapy.com). I've shared profound clinical experiences in many traditionally non-musical care contexts, including psychiatric, special education, rehabilitation, and complex medical settings. My clients navigate challenges related to depression, anxiety, self-esteem, regulation, trauma, grief or loss. I guide clients to explore and express experiences and feelings that are subconsciously defining the self. I aim to provide a warm, reliable, and open-minded presence that encourages clients to express what they have held onto tightly.

I help clients build a positive self esteem and a strong self identity through a secure therapeutic relationship that builds trust, eventual confrontation, and teach them coping skills to take through the rest of their lives. Working with the mind and body for a complete holistic experience is imperative in my practice. Learning how to regulate emotions and not allow symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress and other emotional issues to take over their lives is a key component to my therapy. My practice is Telehealth, I'm licensed in New Jersey, New York, Montana and Florida.

I have extensive experience working with clients whose issues include depression, poor self esteem, anger, anxiety, and dissatisfying relationships.
Over twenty five years of experience has enabled me to zero in on crucial issues and dynamics that need to be worked on and resolved for change to occur. Revealing our painful, frustrating, and disappointing experiences, to ourselves and to our therapist/ally, leads the way to a deeper understanding of how our characters developed, and of what has gotten in the way of having a calmer and more enjoyable life. As this process deepens, we find ourselves looking at our relationships through a new lens.

A good therapy experience requires a safe, empathic environment which promotes self-exploration and growth. My style is interactive, balancing detailed inquiry while allowing room for full expression of the client's concerns. I question assumptions, share my observations of automatic patterns in thinking, feeling and relating to others and draw attention to experience that is being avoided. In my experience this is where sources of depression, anxiety and problems in living are found. Exploring these patterns allows us to reevaluate their present usefulness and adopt new approaches, resulting in greater freedom and flexibility in one's life.

One of my three lively groups, online or in-person, can help you with community, self esteem, and emotional intimacy.
You may want help with your closest relationships, or with your creative work, or with your job, or because you seek a sense of meaning, or of community. Perhaps you want to change your own behavior, but have not been able to make that change happen. You may be the adult child of a narcissistic mother or father who sees that you are still affected by your parent's problems. You may have heard or read something about Jungian therapy that appealed to you. Perhaps you have tried CBT and now want to work more in depth. You probably want relief from some form of pain or isolation.

Someday I'd like to write about "Living Fully and Meaningfully When Times Are Hard". Meanwhile, I am committed to providing a therapeutic relationship that helps people find resilience in themselves to do that. Times are hard for many reasons: relational, financial, vocational, or physiology that stops us: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder or ADD. I treat adults, couples, adolescents, and children with a soft spot in my heart, and clinical expertise, for young children and parents with attachment, relational, communication, regulatory, separation and self esteem issues. Things can change. Through work that uses relational talk therapy, mindfulness, problem solving and trauma based strategies.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
