Do you have a difficult time expressing yourself and the fullness of your being with words alone? Sometimes words are not enough, especially when emotions and narratives get locked in the body. Are you ready to feel more grounded, balanced, whole, present, and unrestricted? Are there stories to unearth within that you would like a deeper understanding of? As a dance therapist, I work with those who are seeking another way to express themselves.Whether it is through movement exploration or talking, I provide a space to work through life's challenges, offering you the opportunity to enhance your self-esteem, self-worth, and intuition.

Any form of psychotherapy must be guided by one overarching purpose: to help you achieve your goals. Treatment alleviates distress and results in greater inner strength. Accordingly, therapy must be a constructive experience, and as work proceeds, you'll experience advances in your sense of well-being. On the whole, expect an upward trend of hope and greater self-esteem. Your capacity for intimacy with others and your sense of fulfillment will increase, concomitant with a decrease in suffering and pain. Psychotherapy helps to establish a profound, meaningful and healthy sense of connectedness with your world and those in it.

Life is a series of transitions. We often need help in moving from a place of discomfort to a place of calmness, safety, and satisfaction. The process of psychotherapy can help you get to that better place. I work with individuals, couples, and families with a focus on achieving self-understanding for the purpose of changing situations which are stressful and unpleasant. My practice is all inclusive, treating those seemingly well adjusted yet with nagging underlying dissatisfactions to those experiencing extreme distress, alienation, and shame.

Learning to see ourselves through a healthy perspective instead of our criticisms and insecurities can help in creating a healthier approach to overcome the obstacles that prevent us from enjoying a fulfilling life.

Are you and your spouse/partner having difficulty communicating? Is your sex life non-existant? Do you dread going home? Is your self-esteem suffering? Then come to talk about it in treatment and find new ways of reconnecting. These are tough times, with some individuals working two and three jobs to stay afloat financially. Keeping it together is a balancing act for couples - especially if you have children. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My style is empathic and proactive.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
