I work with adults, adolescents, and children of diverse backgrounds and identifications seeking therapy that is supportive, illuminating, challenging and productive. My approach to therapy involves listening to what you say and where you struggle to say it, identifying entrenched patterns or unexamined assumptions, emphasizing novel formulations, and helping you discover more creative responses and possibilities. My practice is rooted in psychoanalysis, which offers a frame for promoting crucial discoveries of what is working against you, what capacities have been overlooked, and what new possibilities can emerge.
I regard questions about who you are and what you want as crucial to your particular personality and distinctive situation. I will invite you to speak about your personal history and social context, your relationships, fantasies and dreams. The ways you respond to the invitation form a shared basis for our work.
I have worked in a range of settings - community clinic, inpatient hospital, university counseling - with a broad array of people, demographically and diagnostically, addressing issues of mood, relationships, career, sex, body issues (including non-normative embodiment), substances, blocked creativity, anger, lifespan transitions, trauma and psychosis.
