Sharing your thoughts and feelings with a stranger can seem awkward and bizarre. My goal early on in therapy is to make the experience feel as comfortable as possible by creating a space without judgement and aiming to understand you as a whole person, rather than simply a set of symptoms or a diagnosis. I believe that we all have the capacity to overcome life's many obstacles and live closer to our fullest potential. Although therapy is a very serious thing, I use humor whenever possible so it doesn't feel like you're talking to a robot.
I have experience working with adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, addiction, bipolar disorder, grief, PTSD, and relationship issues (including working with couples). After working in a community mental health center, I learned a great deal about the role of medication and the importance of being an informed consumer of psychiatric services.
Whenever applicable or sought after by a client, I incorporate mindfulness, meditation, and bibliotherapy to complement more traditional methods of counseling. I am open to those facing existential crises or grappling with their spirituality (or lack thereof). Finally, I offer clinical supervision for both new and experienced therapists.
