Taking a few new clients. In Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer there is the Island of Misfit Toys, filled with playthings that seek love but are rejected because they don’t function like traditional toys. Many people we work with feel the same way. They have beautiful personalities, but for one reason or another they just don’t “fit.” Sometimes that shows up through troubles at work or home. Sometimes people just can’t get out of bed each morning. Whatever your challenge, we want you to know you have a home. At Credo, we’ll help you embrace what is unique in you and navigate what often feels like a foreign world.

Han Mitakuyepi, (Greetings) I know that life can be challenging sometimes. Facing those challenges is easier when someone can walk with you while you are working through them, healing, getting stronger, and able to return to and enjoy the path you want to be on. I will be here to join you on that journey. I will listen, support, validate, and encourage you so you can regain your strength, adjust your perspective, and engage newly learned skills that will help you going forward. I look forward to the honor of working with you.

You've spent decades showing up for everyone else. And now — somewhere in your 30s, 40s, or 50s — something has shifted. Your sleep is fractured. Emotions feel out of sync. Your focus slips in ways that scare you. Your sense of self feels blurry.
No one prepared you for this. Maybe doctors have told you it's "just stress" or "just aging." But what you're experiencing has a neurological explanation. Perimenopause and menopause change your brain, not just your body. That's not weakness. That's biology meeting an unsupported life transition.

I work with women who feel that people-pleasing, perfectionism, and/or pressure are constant companions. Perhaps you worry that you aren’t doing enough at home for your children, you don’t have enough time to put into your relationships or you can’t meet your own expectations at work. Balancing the roles that you play, while feeling fulfilled and content can be difficult to manage without frustration or burnout. The women I work with often put themselves second to other relationships and priorities and struggle to communicate and maintain boundaries.

My clients are adults who look fine on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected on the inside. They're navigating trauma, burnout, identity stress, relationship strain, or major life transitions — and they're ready for real change, not just coping. I also work with teens 13+ facing anxiety, self-worth, and life changes. Together, we build grounding first, then explore the patterns and experiences keeping them stuck. Using EMDR, CBT, and DBT, we work toward clarity, stability, and feeling like themselves again.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
