Sometimes, unhealthy habits intertwine with such routines, such substance use or non-communication with family members. These habits can interrupt our daily routines and turn into an obsession. Lokahi Life Center, PLLC is a nursing consultation and clinical psychology center focused on optimizing physical and mental health through current research-based methods. We believe everyone has the potential to achieve happiness and success.

I work with adults (21+) whose presenting concerns are most often related to anxiety, depression, grief, spirituality, "religious deconstruction," "purity culture," "religious reconstruction," sexuality, and relationships. My guiding therapeutic modalities are attachment-focused and trauma-informed (advanced training in Somatic Experiencing). I am also trained in ACT, Emotionally Focused Therapy (and EFIT), and the Gottman Method for couples. My practice is open to people of every religious tradition and people with no religious affiliation. I welcome married and unmarried couples into couple therapy.

I see clients with a range of psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, stress, anger, deconstructing painful religious history or background. Most of my clients are adults ranging from 20 to 80+. I am a Clinical Psychologist with advanced training in psychopharmacology or psychiatric medication management. This allows me to practice psychotherapy and also evaluate, educate and suggest medications that may be helpful in your treatment. If medication is appropriate most of my clients do not see a psychiatrist, they usually return to their family physician for their medication needs. Many take less medication over time.

I place a strong focus on exploring developmentally important emotional and relational disruptions and rely heavily on attachment theory as a conceptual grounding in my work. I have experience in working with family-of-origin concerns, religious/spiritual concerns, existential questions, relationship concerns, Adult-Children-of-Divorce, LGBTQI concerns, and difficulties with acculturation. My clients are diverse in their racial and ethnic identity, religious affiliation, social class, economic status, sexual orientation, and age. I particularly enjoy working with those who are looking to explore what is beneath their current symptoms in order to understand themselves better and enact lasting change.

ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS. TELEHEALTH AND FACE TO FACE. My approach to counseling focuses on how the influences of the past affect the decisions and interactions you are having today. Throughout our therapy, together, you and I will look at the different aspects of your personality, how you were raised, and the messages you received from you parent(s), and how you functioned in the family system. In addition, both of us will work on counseling goals, which will govern the direction of your counseling process.
