I'm Amanda D. Jones and I'm a licensed clinical social worker. I earned my Masters in Social Work from Barry University. I have experience serving children, adolescents and families in a variety of settings including in-home, outpatient and school-based services and partial hospitalization programs. I enjoy working with individuals, as well as couples and families. I specialize in adults and teenagers who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harming behaviors, trauma, self-esteem issues, challenging life transitions, codependency, troublesome boundaries, communication barriers, and more.

I hold the space for change to occur as you move you closer to your goals. I creatively adjust to the unique needs of clients that come and see me.

I work exclusively via teletherapy with two populations: 1) Secondary school-age young men dealing with issues that come with adolescence. These include friend/relationship concerns, home life, gaining independence, parental divorce, loss, school life, and what to do after high school. 2) I also work with adult, new fathers to help them find balance with family, work, and friend issues as they navigate their new role. Finding space and maintaining energy apart from the family unit without guilt while fostering positive masculinity is tough to learn, but necessary to be more present with the self as well as children and partners.

Most people who find me here are pretty miserable and hoping to find a way to make things different in their lives. I work best with girls and women who are willing to bust it to achieve change. Therapy isn't a magic wand - I believe that each individual has the power to recognize what their therapeutic needs are and maybe even how to address them; I am here to provide gentle guidance and perhaps some different perspective to bring awareness to patterns of thought and behavior, therefore facilitating YOUR desire for change.

You don't feel good enough and you've never truly fit in. You're struggling with substance use, addiction, shame, and low self-esteem. Control, perfectionism and rigidity have become ways to manage life. If you're not achieving then you feel worthless. Nothing is good enough! You're harder on yourself than with strangers. I connect easily with clients to feel lighter and clearer in their minds, body, and Spirit. I work with people with stressful careers in medicine, law, finance, and small businesses. Knowing the necessity of keeping a clear head and calm body, yet have been struggling with heartbreak, anxiety, fears, loss and grief that has created overwhelming stress and expectations that limits functioning. It is a challenging balancing act with career, family, relationships, along with finding some quiet time to relax. I help you master these challenges with a very confidential, (no insurance or electronic records) safe, and caring environment.

I have a humanistic and client-centered approach. I view the counseling relationship as a collaboration between myself and you. Together we will work towards self-acceptance and self-awareness by dealing with issues such as moods, attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors that may be standing in the way of happiness and contentment in your life. I use an integrative method including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, reality therapy, positive psychotherapy, and mindfulness training with a mind-body-and-soul model.

Appalachian Counseling and Psychological Services is a full service testing center providing psychological and neuropsychological testing. We provide diagnostic testing for assessments for mood disorders, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, learning disabilities, giftedness, parental fitness evaluations, assessments for cognitive functioning, and post-concussion cognitive assessments.

My ideal client is one who is searching for a deeper understanding of themselves as well as their relationships with the meaningful people in their world. Understanding the complexities of interpersonal dynamics is key to having healthy relationships with oneself, as well as others. My goal as a therapist is to create an atmosphere in which it is comfortable to explore old wounds as well as current interpersonal dynamics. I specialize in conducting three different types of evaluations: 1) Advanced ADHD Assessments, 2) learning disability or gifted evals, and 3) custodial evaluations. When evaluating ADHD, dyslexia or other learning challenges, I use neuropsychological tests that measure the building blocks of memory, learning, and self-regulation. I work hard to utilize the latest research and test materials to make neuropsychological evaluations as engaging and as practical as possible.
