I draw from psychodynamic, trauma-focused, and strength-based frameworks to help you understand your patterns, find your voice, and build a life that actually feels like yours.
You appear capable on the outside — accomplished, dependable, holding it together. But inwardly you don’t quite believe it. Maybe the life in front of you doesn’t feel entirely like yours. Your relationships follow patterns you can’t explain. Success never feels like enough. You’ve always managed, always shown up, but never felt free to take up the space you’ve actually earned. You may never have done this before. Perhaps you were taught to handle things privately, through faith, or not at all. But something in you is finally ready. You may also be a new mother navigating postpartum or quietly losing yourself inside motherhood.

I believe that each of us has the potential to live a meaningful, fully engaged life. At our best, we feel alive—energized by purpose and ready to contribute to the well-being of others. Of course, life also brings challenges that can leave us feeling stuck. Whether it's crippling anxiety, numbing depression, or the impact of a traumatic experience, counseling can offer a path forward. I work with adults facing issues such as anxiety, depression, various forms of addiction, and trauma, helping them move toward healing and greater fulfillment.

While my approach to therapy is strongly influenced by both the modality in which I first learned how to be a helper ( psychodynamic) and the orientation that I use most in practice today (cognitive-behavioral therapy), my style could best be described as integrative.
Hi, I’m Madeleine Matthews, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) serving clients in Georgia and South Carolina. I specialize in working with adult women navigating substance use, mood disorders, and the lasting impact of trauma.
My approach centers on helping you connect more deeply with your inner experience, understanding how the past shapes the present, and identifying patterns that may no longer serve you. Together, we’ll work to break maladaptive cycles and create the opportunity for meaningful, lasting change.

Helping you navigate your struggles, honor your story, and move toward healing, growth, and a life that feels authentically yours.
Hi, I’m Mikala Adair, a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of SET Counseling. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where you should feel seen and supported while also being gently challenged to grow.
I believe our struggles often have a story behind them. Through exploring different parts of ourselves, we can begin to understand the ways we have learned to cope, the beliefs we carry, and the patterns that may no longer be serving us.

You hold so much together, the schedules, the emotional needs of the people you love. From the outside, you seem calm and capable, but inside you feel anxious, restless, and stretched thin. Your mind rarely stops, replaying, fixing, planning. The to-do list never ends. You wake up tired, give everything you have, and still feel it’s not enough. This isn’t just overwhelm, it’s shaped by experiences that never had space to heal: growing up too quickly, carrying emotional responsibility for others, living under high expectations, or loss. Somewhere along the way, you lost the parts of yourself that once felt calm and present.

I see clients of all ages and who are dealing with major life changes, traumatic events, relationship problems, and anxiety and depression. The clients I work with are dedicated to making meaning changes in their life, looking to heal from past wounds, and engaged in understanding the nature of their problems better. When people walk through my door, they are taking an important step in vulnerability and relinquishing a sense of control. They are admitting what we all have to admit: that we are broken. However, they recognize another truth: their potential to solve those problems and the choice to take responsibility for their life.

Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about the next step. I believe therapy is a stepping stone, not a destination. Together, we'll develop practical skills, restore hope, and strengthen your confidence so you can continue growing long after therapy ends.

Ugh, why do I keep clicking on this same Tiktok, every time I look at it I get sad
Or maybe I feel disappointed? I remember when me and … well you know the name. I miss that person, maybe I’ll reach out to … wait, I said I wouldn’t do that anymore! How do I keep finding myself in this cycle. And on top of that, my sleep sucks. I’m going to bed at midnight after doomscrolling for hours and then find myself waking up around 3-4 in the morning just lying in bed looking at the ceiling. I am so tired. But I don’t know how to get back to sleep. I just wish I could get a good night's rest. Maybe I should reach out for help?

What if therapy could finally feel different?
If therapy hasn’t worked for you in the past, you’re not alone. Maybe you felt misunderstood, judged, or like you were simply being given advice without anyone really taking the time to understand you. Maybe you’ve learned to keep things to yourself—even around the people you love—or you’re struggling to make sense of experiences that have left you feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck.
You may be navigating grief, relationship challenges, family dynamics, trauma, identity exploration, anxiety, or simply trying to figure out what comes next. Whatever brings you to therapy, you do

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
