Overcoming obstacles or major life changes can be extremely stressful. I understand that being your authentic self and building\maintaining strong connections are important elements of living a meaningful life. Acknowledging, understanding, and healing traumatic experiences is painful to do, especially alone. Trauma can cause anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and broken relationships.

Welcome to my psychotherapy practice. With over 20 years of experience, I offer children, families, and adults a safe and accepting environment to explore and gain a better understanding of the issues most affecting their lives. Rather than solely focusing on behaviors or symptoms, I work with individuals and families on gaining insight and understanding into the various underlying causes of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. It is only then that meaningful and long-lasting change is possible.

Mom guilt. Exhaustion. You may be constantly checking the baby monitor (or running to her room) to make sure she is breathing even though you know she is going to be screeching in exactly 17 minutes for her next feeding. You know that he is going to resent you and you blame yourself for not feeling that instant connection when he was born. Instead of proudly wearing that super mom cape, you feel strangled by the requirements to make sure all your kiddos are fed and clean, move the laundry to the dryer before it grows mold, & checking Google to verify that she is hitting all of her developmental milestones. You feel like a failure.

My experience & training in medicine accompanied by my training in mental health counseling allows me to support my clients from a unique perspective. My approach to improved mental health is to address not only the present, but to look to the past to elicit both understanding about learned behaviors and beliefs, while also identifying times of strength that can be applied to present day struggles. I enjoy working with individuals who are facing challenges with relationships, chronic medical illness, perinatal mood disorders, life transitions, parenting and their careers.

Brooke Hill is a therapist offering holistic therapy for adults in areas such as life transitions, anxiety, trauma, relationships, breakups/divorce, thoughtful parenting/coparenting, moving through "feeling stuck" and personal growth. Symptoms and conflict on the surface provide clues to the core patterns within that block deep connection with ourselves and with those we love. These patterns have outlived their usefulness from earlier years and now create more pain than they relieve. Life is always teaching us how to live more fully, and lessons repeat (with increasing volume) until they are learned.

Welcome. Unfortunately, we are not often taught how to process emotions healthily, nor are we given the skills to help facilitate this. My unique approach includes cognitive-behavioral therapy and providing actionable skills that clients can use right away. Paired with my strength-based expertise in working with teens and adults, I feel I have a unique approach that helps clients identify and build on their strengths, clarify their purpose if so desired, and then work to build a skill set that allows them to handle challenges that come their way. Thus, allowing for reduced stress, improved relationships, and a more fulfilled life.

I have helped clients overcome difficult issues from their past and/or present; find freedom from unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors; and go on to live fuller, more rewarding lives as a result. I believe that professional counseling can provide psychological and emotional healing, as well as spiritual wholeness. I integrate the best that psychotherapy has to offer with scriptural truths. I offer the support and guidance you'll need to help identify and overcome any harmful beliefs as well as destructive behaviors that may be preventing you from fully experiencing your best life, the life that God intends for you to live.

I provide psychotherapy treatment to individual, couples, and families who want to explore, express, and resolve conflicts and challenges in current situations and relationships. I have the most success with clients who are willing to be honest about themselves and their relationships & who will commit to attending regular sessions to identify & work toward goals. Connecting with my clients, creating a safe and trusting environment, and drawing parallels between past history and current challenges are some of my strengths. Play therapy provides my youngest clients with a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn and grow.

I work with Adults, Young Adults, Adolescents and Couples on a wide range of issues and difficulties. Some specific interests include anxiety and depression, self -esteem, work-life balance, regulating emotions, relationship and communication problems, divorce, life transitions, grief, and parenting issues. I value a collaborative environment to develop new insights and strategies to manage stressors, process emotions, enhance strengths and implement effective life changes. Difficulties processing emotions and a lack of coping skills can keep people feeling 'stuck' and be a barrier to experiencing growth and joy in life.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
