I specialize in EMDR and
IFS
to help you ease trauma-related distress, overcome adverse effects, and regain peace and control in your life.
Overcoming obstacles or major life changes can be extremely stressful. I understand that being your authentic self and building\maintaining strong connections are important elements of living a meaningful life. Acknowledging, understanding, and healing traumatic experiences is painful to do, especially alone. Trauma can cause anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and broken relationships.

Brooke uses approaches like mindfulness and internal
family systems
therapy (an individual therapy) to help you understand and work effectively with your thoughts and emotions.
Brooke Hill is a therapist offering holistic therapy for adults in areas such as life transitions, anxiety, trauma, relationships, breakups/divorce, thoughtful parenting/coparenting, moving through "feeling stuck" and personal growth. Symptoms and conflict on the surface provide clues to the core patterns within that block deep connection with ourselves and with those we love. These patterns have outlived their usefulness from earlier years and now create more pain than they relieve. Life is always teaching us how to live more fully, and lessons repeat (with increasing volume) until they are learned.

My treatment approach is eclectic and I tend to utilize more trauma-focused,
IFS
(Internal
Family Systems
), EMDR, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques but it depends on the person and what works best for them.
Sometimes the decision to engage in psychotherapy can be daunting and overwhelming. You may have been contemplating the idea of beginning therapy for some time or it may be that an experience or something in your life has triggered the decision to begin seeking support and/or a change. Many people begin therapy because they are experiencing sadness, depression, anxiety, grief/loss or can't articulate the reason but know something is different and they just don't feel "right". Old coping mechanisms aren't as effective and/or you seek a different unbiased perspective.

Whether working with trauma, anxiety or chronic pain, my therapeutic model of choice is
IFS
(Internal
Family Systems
) because it creates change quickly, but gently and the positive effects of treatment persist over time.
I believe that symptoms are like guideposts, signaling opportunities for growth. Expressed as anxiety, depression or even chronic pain, these unwelcome experiences actually show us where to begin the work of bringing life back into balance. My clients are typically outwardly successful people who seem to be traversing their busy lives with ease, while secretly they struggle with issues like chronic pain, anxiety, depression and disconnection from self and others. I work within a mind-body framework to uncover and heal the root causes of a client's symptoms so that they can experience lasting relief.

Now accepting new clients! Emotions are an inevitable part of life, and they are so valuable! We all experience the breadth and depth of human emotion, and how we regulate, cope, and grow through these experiences is dictated by our past experiences in relationship with others. My hope is to meet you where you are, and provide a warm empathic space for exploration of these experiences and old coping mechanisms that may not be working for you any more. I want to help you better understand yourself and your life experiences, to equip you with the knowledge and emotional awareness to live a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.

Are you experiencing difficulties resolving conflicts, fostering intimacy, and communicating in your relationships? “Family dysfunction rolls down from generation to generation, like a fire in the woods, taking down everything in its path until one person in one generation has the courage to turn and face the flames” – Terry Real The family we grew up in is the place where we learned how to communicate, how to feel, and how to get our needs met. I help adults identify and work through family of origin issues to overcome fears, build healthy relationships, and achieve a sense of peace.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
