My ideal client is one seeking to find their own personal identity. I use a combination of theoretical approaches to accommodate the specific needs for each client. I always start with a client centered approach to build a trusting relationship. Once that is established I move into a psychoanalytic approach (counselor and client work to understand the inner life of the client through deep exploration of unconscious and past experiences). Once connections from the past and present are acknowledged, and understood, I end therapy using a reality based approach (focusing on the things in life we can control).

There is space being held for you! If you are on a healing journey; are feeling stuck in the grasp of anxiety and/or depression; at a crossroads in your life; grieving a
loss
; navigating an experience with cancer/illness; carrying caregiver burden, I welcome you to pause here. We sometimes lose our spark and struggle to catch our breath as the mental, emotional, and physical waves crash over us. Together we can bring out your strengths that may feel lost in this moment and add new tools to take on these challenges in different ways.

Hello - I'm Kristin! Entering into therapy can be scary, but here's the deal - working through scary is where growth occurs! If you feel stuck, lost, struggling with change, afraid, or unsure of the next step, I hope you will give counseling a try. My role as a therapist is not to fix your feelings but to hold your discomfort, distress, and fears in safe, caring hands. We will work together to find new ways to conquer your problems, heal old wounds and move you into a safe place where you can grow. I have worked with chronic illness, depression, anxiety, trauma,
loss
, codependence, eating disorders, and pre / post-bariatric clients.

I am blessed to work with clients with concerns related to trauma, aging, life transitions,
grief
, stress, anxiety, and depression.
Welcome! Like many of us, I have struggled with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I have also dealt with relationship issues and toxic family dynamics. I began my own therapy working on these issues and more. My therapist was loving, authentic, and down-to-earth. After years of unfulfilling administrative jobs, I went back to school as a non-traditional student to earn my Master of Social Work degree and ultimately received my LISW-CP. Reflecting on my life experiences and my own time in therapy, I realized I very much wanted to become a therapist. I hope to companion each client on his or her own path toward a better life.

Sometimes the decision to engage in psychotherapy can be daunting and overwhelming. You may have been contemplating the idea of beginning therapy for some time or it may be that an experience or something in your life has triggered the decision to begin seeking support and/or a change. Many people begin therapy because they are experiencing sadness, depression, anxiety,
grief
/
loss
or can't articulate the reason but know something is different and they just don't feel "right". Old coping mechanisms aren't as effective and/or you seek a different unbiased perspective.

I find it a privilege to assist clients in their journey through life’s challenges and guiding them towards self awareness and personal growth. Since I understand that therapy can be a vulnerable place, I take pride in helping clients find joy and healing in the therapy process. I approach each client with “unconditional positive regard” and structure each session with the individual’s needs in mind. I believe that by facilitating a nurturing environment with a client centered focus, it enhances the healing process as it relates to trauma, unresolved
grief
, and abuse that underlies many mental health issues.

In 2012, my nephew was murdered. Nothing in life could have prepared me for the overwhelming
grief
that shattered my world. I sought the help of a professional clinician who guided me through untangling from my traumatic
grief
. My therapist gave me a safe space to process my emotions and to heal while providing me with a "tool box" filled with techniques and coping skills. These "tools" enabled me to transition from accepting the
death
of my nephew to healing and moving forward from the
loss
. Empowered by
loss
, I made a complete professional pivot from education into counseling.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
