Welcome! Thank you for taking a moment to read about me and the services that I provide. Originally from upstate New York, I am a transplant to South Carolina. I enjoy every moment of the warmer, sunnier weather and the native wildlife, with the exception of palmetto bugs. I have a significant history of medical field work, which has increased my awareness of the inextricable relationship between the mind and body. I also believe strongly in the healing power of laughter, creativity, nature, and the human connection. My specialty areas are depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues, and adjustment disorders.

Currently accepting new clients via teletherapy. Sometimes life throws some really tough and painful things our way. Then, sometimes, we don’t even know why things feel as hard as they do but all of the sudden we notice that even the little things feel like too much. We may know that something in our lives needs to change but we either don’t know what it is or we just don’t know where to start to make it happen. If you think you can benefit from having extra support in an unbiased and safe space, then engaging in therapy is absolutely right for you.

Many of us are overwhelmed by the demands of daily life. Beyond the normal stressors, individuals and families deal with a myriad of problems. They can easily be paralyzed by the decisions that must be made and are weighed down by strained relationships and seemingly insurmountable circumstances. The good news is that there are solutions and each person has the ability to create and/or experience change within their own lives! I am privileged to assist clients as they identify changes needed to create positive life changes, make good, solid decisions, and sustain more productive, constructive behaviors and thought patterns.

Welcome! Like many of us, I have struggled with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I have also dealt with relationship issues and toxic family dynamics. I began my own therapy working on these issues and more. My therapist was loving, authentic, and down-to-earth. After years of unfulfilling administrative jobs, I went back to school as a non-traditional student to earn my Master of Social Work degree and ultimately received my LISW-CP. Reflecting on my life experiences and my own time in therapy, I realized I very much wanted to become a therapist. I hope to companion each client on his or her own path toward a better life.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.
What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.
How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.
How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
