I believe in the power of creativity and view it as a medium for reaching people and helping them make connections they would otherwise not make, so I will often use art and play therapies in sessions.
Hi, my name is Kinsey! I firmly believe that every person is doing the very best they can at any given moment with the knowledge and skills they have at the time, and until we know better, we can’t expect ourselves to do better. Thus, it is my belief that we are all capable of learning and implementing healthier, more effective ways of doing things, and I want to be there to guide you through the process of becoming the very best version of yourself. Throughout the years I have worked in multiple different treatment settings which has offered me a great deal of experience in the clinical field.

Waitlist for new clients
These include but are not limited to DBT, Somatic IFS, EMDR techniques, somatic psychotherapy, sensory processing art therapy techniques, as well as yoga and reiki/energy psychotherapy practices.
If you have had trouble communicating with your therapist/others or with traditional talk therapy approaches, you have come to the right place. My name is Dena Ewing and I am a board certified art therapist that specializes in trauma therapy and somatic practices to resolve emotional pain and suffering. Many people I treat have often tried different therapies in the past with limited success. My approach to resolving long standing anxiety, trauma and/or depression is by taking a "bottom up" approach, meaning we work with gently connecting to the body first to let it inform the next steps in healing.

My ideal client is one seeking to find their own personal identity. I use a combination of theoretical approaches to accommodate the specific needs for each client. I always start with a client centered approach to build a trusting relationship. Once that is established I move into a psychoanalytic approach (counselor and client work to understand the inner life of the client through deep exploration of unconscious and past experiences). Once connections from the past and present are acknowledged, and understood, I end therapy using a reality based approach (focusing on the things in life we can control).

My stance, as with everything in life, is to be present and authentic. I think it can be very easy to listen; however, it is another thing to truly hear what someone is saying. I would like to think that I am a therapist that hones in on what is actually being said – I hear you! I feel that my experiences, personally and professionally, have shaped in me an openness to others. I have developed a deep awareness not only of myself but more importantly to my clients. I feel that most clinicians’ senses are heightened. We are open, and we are ready to start the process of exploration and to help define what makes you unique.

You have been disconnected from yourself, others, your body for too long. Trying to find your way back home has felt impossible. Your needs and identity are a long-away dream and anger and resentment seem your constant companions. You used to dance in the kitchen and now stand with gritted teeth washing dishes and packing lunches, life feels dull and marked with monotony. Visions of lovely lunches feel a million year ago as you eat your kids PB&J crust...again. How will you find yourself again when there is no time for self care and the mental load is overwhelming?

Your child is struggling. You want to be able to fix it, but after months, you are at your wit's end. The embarrassing tantrums are out of hand. You’ve gotten calls from their school. It's clear to you that they are acting out because they are anxious, have trouble with social connections, or aren't getting enough sleep. You’ve tried countless things and different approaches but still see no progress. No book or podcast can tell you how to coach them through their troubles. Watching your child struggle breaks your heart because you don’t know how to provide them with relief. You feel hopeless.

Another day with anxiety. Racing thoughts, tight chest, can’t breathe, with emotions all over the place. You want more from life – healthy relationships, hitting goals, and to make a difference – but you can’t figure out how to get there. You feel the anxiety, but it doesn’t make sense – life seems fine. It pops up out of nowhere – when you’re getting dressed in the morning or out on a date. You’re frustrated, trying to push past it but that only makes it worse. You see other people with loving and committed partners, great family relationships, or thriving friendships, and don’t think that will ever be you. Is it even possible?

I am so glad you're here! My name is Michelle and I specialize in Sex Therapy. Pretty wild, I know. While I understand that not everyone has sexual concerns and questions, our mental health can be greatly affected by sex and sexuality; whether you're having it or not. I believe sex is a big part of the human experience and we need safe, positive and affirming professionals to talk to about it. I like to take a collaborative approach to therapy to help you identify what your goals are to achieving sexual wellness. I am trained first and foremost as a mental health professional but for those needing help with sexual issues, I am here.

Life is often a series of difficult challenges and painful struggles. It can be hard to make sense of it all, let go and truly heal. Still, trauma, chronic pain/illness, mood issues, loss or other difficult problems do NOT need to define you or your life. I have a passion to help young adults, women, single moms, military families, and others who've been impacted by the tough stuff life has to offer. Using a holistic, strengths-based approach that integrates wellness practices, with trauma informed modalities I can help facilitate the healing process, and provide an opportunity for you to become the best version of yourself!

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
