This has been such a difficult year, with so much sadness, fear, and uncertainty. Even people who have never experienced symptoms of depression and anxiety before may feel as if they're teetering on the edge. For those who have struggled in the past, it may all seem overwhelming. Therapy can help. Talking about your thoughts, feelings, and worries can lighten the burden and help life feel more manageable again. Often that happens within just a few sessions, or sometimes it can take longer. You’ll know what will be most helpful for you.

Currently Accepting New Clients! Trauma can impact us in many ways, sometimes ways in which we aren’t fully aware, but we know something is off. I have made it my mission to create an environment in which clients feel supported, are able to work through difficulties, recognize their strengths, and begin to live the life they have wanted. In a non-judgmental setting, we will explore issues, develop goals, and start making the positive changes you're seeking.

You've been struggling with maintaining a balanced and happy life due to feelings of depression and/or anxiety . You may have started to self-medicate with alcohol and/or drugs to ease your stress. You are scared that if you continue to practice your negative self-talk, constant worrying, or substance abuse it will further affect your relationships, marriage, self-esteem, health, career, and happiness. You deserve to live a balanced life without the need to self-medicate and practice unhealthy coping skills that don't work! What's at stake is enabling yourself to live in a state of self-doubt, disappointment, and worry.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy to work with many issues including anxiety , depression, substance abuse, parent/child relationships, relationship issues, trauma, and chronic sickness.
I bring a sense of humor and compassion to my work with clients.  Your issues may, of course, be serious, but sometimes humor can help bring needed perspective.  I provide counseling as well as life coaching.  I realize some people are stuck in a rut and just need just 5-10 sessions to get going. Other people might be interested in a more long term approach.  I can work with you either way. I realize that you might feel apprehensive about the counseling process, so I have incorporated an easygoing style that greatly helps to reduce people's sense of unease. I want to get to know you so we can get working!

Because everyone experiences stress, grief, anxiety , depression, and mental health concerns in their own way, I tailor my approach to each client.
Welcome. Unfortunately, we are not often taught how to process emotions healthily, nor are we given the skills to help facilitate this. My unique approach includes cognitive-behavioral therapy and providing actionable skills that clients can use right away. Paired with my strength-based expertise in working with teens and adults, I feel I have a unique approach that helps clients identify and build on their strengths, clarify their purpose if so desired, and then work to build a skill set that allows them to handle challenges that come their way. Thus, allowing for reduced stress, improved relationships, and a more fulfilled life.

Brooke Hill is a therapist offering holistic therapy for adults in areas such as life transitions, anxiety , trauma, relationships, breakups/divorce, thoughtful parenting/coparenting, moving through "feeling stuck" and personal growth. Symptoms and conflict on the surface provide clues to the core patterns within that block deep connection with ourselves and with those we love. These patterns have outlived their usefulness from earlier years and now create more pain than they relieve. Life is always teaching us how to live more fully, and lessons repeat (with increasing volume) until they are learned.

I work with Adults, Young Adults, Adolescents and Couples on a wide range of issues and difficulties. Some specific interests include anxiety and depression, self -esteem, work-life balance, regulating emotions, relationship and communication problems, divorce, life transitions, grief, and parenting issues. I value a collaborative environment to develop new insights and strategies to manage stressors, process emotions, enhance strengths and implement effective life changes. Difficulties processing emotions and a lack of coping skills can keep people feeling 'stuck' and be a barrier to experiencing growth and joy in life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
