Navigating trauma can leave you feeling sad or down, emotionally unstable, unable to sleep, stuck in constant negative thoughts, and overwhelmed with no clear idea of what to do next. You may wonder what it feels like to feel “normal” again, not scanning the room for what might harm you, laughing freely, feeling safe, having a healthy relationship, or even dating again. I believe insight and education, paired with a clear plan of action, can help create real and lasting change.

Does life hurt beyond what you can tolerate? Whether you have been suppressing fear, physical pain, sadness, anger, or trauma for a few months or many years, if you are willing and able to begin the journey toward healing, then I want to support you. When pain is unbearable, we usually want to numb it or avoid acknowledging it for as long as possible. When a client contacts me, they are typically tired of feeling stuck and motivated to change unhealthy thoughts, feelings and/or relationship patterns.

I specialize in working with couples and women experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, burnout and health-related challenges. My approach is active and practical. While I believe in listening and creating a safe space, I also provide clear, effective tools you can use in your daily life.
Many people come to therapy feeling frustrated because they’ve been able to “vent,” but haven’t learned how to create change. I focus on helping clients understand how our brain works, how it affects our body and how to use that knowledge to our advantage.

I love working with clients with medical issues, adolescents, and women who are in leadership positions. As someone who is a woman in leadership and who has a chronic illness, I know first hand the challenges that a physical illness can place on mental health. I also know that it's hard. Balance is possible and you deserve to find the life you want in the face of challenges.
I also love working with adolescents, and see adolescence as one of the most rewarding and challenging times in the life course. I approach teenagers with respect, while also challenging them to become the best version of themselves.

Navigating life and the pressure to “have it together” can feel exhausting. Whether you're starting college, entering the workforce, stepping into a demanding healthcare role, or trying to keep up in a high-pressure corporate environment, life transitions can bring out anxiety, depression, grief, and even unhealthy coping patterns. It’s hard to find someone who genuinely understands the emotional weight of burnout, compassion fatigue, perfectionism, or the silent pressure to be strong for everyone else.

No one is exempt from problems, but how an individual responds to that problem is key to resolving the issue and helps decrease symptoms such as anxiety and depression, which may come with an unwelcome situation. A college student enduring panic attacks. A parent grieving the loss of a child. A husband learning to become a caregiver for a wife with a chronic illness. A young woman reckoning with the lingering effects of a traumatic childhood. I’ve worked with these and many other people - each with a unique story that brought them to counseling. What they had in common was life experience that had overwhelmed their thoughts and emotions, impacted their relationships, and challenged their sense of self. They also shared the courage to sit with me, allowing an unknown person to meet them in their pain and confusion.

Couples don’t usually need a better argument. They need a better process. I help couples break negative cycles, reduce escalation, rebuild trust, and restore real connection. This includes communication breakdown, emotional distance, recurring conflict, and trust injuries. I also work with men who feel stuck in stress, anger, emotional shutdown, anxiety, and repeating trauma-related patterns. Sessions are structured and practical. We slow things down, identify patterns driving the problem, and build a clear plan you can use outside of therapy. If you want a therapist who is direct, respectful, and result-focused, I can help.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
