I would be honored to work with you and your family to identify strengths and areas for growth, creating the space you need to facilitate change and healing.
Carl Rogers stated, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." You may feel overcome with a lack of control over your own emotions or actions, or maybe you feel at a loss for how to support your child while continuing to form a strong and healthy relationship. I strive to help you or your child work towards authenticity while learning to effectively explore and cope with strong emotions and develop positive communication skills. I am confident in the power of cultivating these vital skills at an early age and empowering caregivers to encourage continued growth.

Life can become especially difficult at times, to the point that your best efforts are not making a difference. Your point of concern may be with mental health, relationship or family , job or career, marriage, athletic performance, or spiritual life. You need more than pat answers. What you want is the opportunity to be heard in a safe, confidential place. What you long for is to be understood, and to discover what will help bring about improvement, restoration, and transformation.

Treatment plans are change and goal oriented based on the aspirations and motivations of the individual/ family .
I am a Licensed, Psychologist (Clinical) with over twenty-five years of experience in treating individuals with various problems in living. It is clear that each client's problems are unique and deserve personal and careful assessment. Subsequent treatment should be supportive and paced accordingly. Clients present because they want something to change and this is the goal of most therapy. It is particularly important to take the mystery out of mental health and this is always achieved.

I’m passionate about working with your family to empower you to communicate, connect and thrive in relationship with one another.
NOT Accepting new clients. Will evaluate October 2022. You’re juggling everything. You’re overwhelmed. You’re a working professional. You're a stay at home parent. Your kids are struggling at home and school. You’re at the end of your rope. You're worried about your children’s negative behaviors. You’re worried for your middle schooler or high schooler but you have no idea how to talk to them about your concerns. You and your partner are struggling to connect, fighting, worried that maybe things would be better if you separated. You feel that you have nowhere to turn. You're afraid to ask for help.

Email is the best means of communication. There are times when our past can creep up into our present and take charge. Doing the best we can with the skills we have, we attempt to triumph over pain, heartache, trauma, fears, etc. However, there are times when we feel broken no matter how hard we try to put the pieces back together. Although we cannot change the past, we can put the pieces back together and still be beautiful; different yet beautiful. I like to think of therapy like the art of kintsugi, putting our broken pieces back together with a gold bond.

I obtained my Educational Specialist Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Converse College in 2007.
I feel privileged when individuals, couples, and families allow me to assist them in meeting their personal goals. After recognizing the need for additional support, many feel vulnerable and even overwhelmed in taking that first step. From our first session, I strive to assure that each client feels comfortable and safe within a confidential setting to openly explore their experiences and emotions. I am committed to serving each client with compassion and empathy. I am a strength-based clinician who believes in working collaboratively with you to identify your goals and achieve your desired success.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults individually, with partners, or as a family .
Life can be beautiful and joyful, but it can also be difficult and challenging. Those challenges can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, shame, anger, and stress among others and those negative thoughts are a vicious cycle that can ultimately lead to unwanted and undesired behaviors. Before you know it, you don’t feel in control anymore. What if I told you that the cycle doesn’t have to continue? That you are worthy and capable of stopping that cycle with your own strengths and abilities?

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
