“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” ~Carl Rogers~ With over a decade in serving the child, adolescent , and family population, my heart is to come alongside children, families, and adults- joining them in their journey to a better quality of life. My hope is that regardless of the challenges that compel you to walk through the counseling door, you will leave knowing that you have an advocate, an ally, and an expert with clinical insight to help you identify the necessary tools to get you where you want to go.

I work specifically with adolescent females and young women to navigate the challenges of anxiety, depression, family stress, and life transitions.
It takes courage to begin the journey toward healing and wholeness. Now more than ever, relationships are hard, change is difficult, and most days it's hard to imagine things getting better. I am here to help you in the journey. I help individuals work toward overcoming stress, anxiety, and depression in order to achieve their goals and I help couples work toward reconnection and conflict resolution. I work from a holistic treatment approach, recognizing the needs and connection of the mind, body, and spirit. With my Christian faith background, I welcome the opportunity to integrate clients’ personal faith into treatment.

Life by Design Coaching
PhD, CLC
Dr. Medlock is accepting coaching clients. My goal, as a coach, is to help you move from where you are to where you want to be, helping you get unstuck and change perceptions, habits and behaviors to move forward. My clients seek coaching at a point in their lives where they are asking questions...Why am I not my best self or happy in my life? Why can't I seem to reach my goals? Why can't I figure out what I want? These questions begin a path to change. I use a strengths-based and positive psychology approach to work with adolescent and adult clients in life and career transitions and those straggling with ADHD/ADD/EF issues.

You're googling for a therapist because you just don't know what else to do to help your teenager or you're in your 20s and you’re nervous to share your story, but you’re ready. In my therapy practice, I have been most helpful with tweens/teens (ages 11+) and 20s/30s. My clients are teens who feel depressed (in boys it looks like anger), parents who feel like they’re child is “closing off the world,” or young adults who are looking back on their lives constantly questioning the professional or personal decisions they've made. I also work with families, specifically when there is constant parent-child conflict.

I work closely with adolescent and adult clients experiencing challenges related to past and/or present trauma and PTSD, Complex Mood Disorders and Emotional Disturbance(s), Social and Family Relationships, Abuse, and Behavioral concerns.
The process of change requires us to start somewhere and it is our very first steps that consequentially reveal our true strength and ability to invest in ourselves, our well-being, and find meaning in our lives. I work with adolescent and adult clients and have been so fortunate to discover my true passion for trauma work, mood disorders, and my eclectic, integrative style. As a firm believer in the significance of both our past and present experiences, my clinical approach is grounded in a universal and authentic perspective. I integrate ACT, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Interpersonal & Trauma-focused theoretical approaches.

You are worried about your tween/ teenager , they are experiencing high levels of stress, can’t seem to stay on top of tasks, are shut down and seem disconnected or sad. Or maybe you are a young adult feeling these things yourself. You’re overwhelmed by the constant spiraling thoughts, and worn out just going through the motions. When we’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or go through a life change we often find ourselves engaging in negative thought patters, beliefs, and habits. We feel like nothing is in our control, and you are ready to change that!

Choosing a counselor can be a scary decision. It may help to know how I can assist you with your life issues. I specialize in grief therpy, family therapy, adolescent issues, and families with children with chronic illness. I also work with many general topics, including life coaching, trauma, and adjustment problems. I direct therapy from a Psychodynamic approach, taking into consideration your whole life story, not just the present situation. I view family issues from a Family Systems construct, seeing the family as an action story, each person playing a part.

You're feeling overwhelmed, withdrawn, distracted, anxious or depressed. Others may think you’re just hormonal or stressed out. Until now, you may have been able to manage it on your own, but it’s starting to affect other areas of your life. You don’t understand why things are so overwhelming and your motivation is tanking. If you’re a parent, your teen may be dealing with school stress, pressure, and a constant feeling of inferiority. You're worried they are quickly spiraling into anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem. I can help.

Few things are more distressing than difficulties with attention, learning, anxiety, depression, memory or mental confusion. If you or a loved one are experiencing such problems as result of a head injury, a difficult life situation, or simply unexplained reasons, there are treatments and resources to help. I am a licensed psychologist with 45+ years of experience working with individuals, families and couples. I have experience in a wide range of settings including schools, mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, universities and prisons. I take a biological/psychological/social approach to assessment and treatment.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
