The more I facilitated therapy, the more I found out how much I enjoy empowering
women
to meet their potential.
When pain enters our lives, it can be powerful and disheartening. This oftentimes causes us to isolate ourselves from others. I believe that healing is rooted in connection. My hope is that clients find their strengths and inner resources in order to improve their overall quality of life. Everyone deserves a fresh start. I work hard to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for my clients so they can start their personal, meaningful journey.

I love working with people who: are interested in an in-depth journey; are in long-term recovery from addictions; face gay and lesbian issues; face grief and end of life challenges; suffer from depression and childhood abuse and trauma;
women
who have had difficulties coming into their power and potential.
I am a psychotherapist with 35 years experience in a variety of treatment settings. I have been in private practice now for 23 years, working with people from all walks of life who bring their unique story to the space we co-create. With care, and with gentle yet intense encounters, we navigate through the difficult times in the person's life. Our work together and the intimacy of the here and now is about healing life's wounds more so than managing life's difficulties; it is the healing that brings ease to life stresses.

I help Black
Woman
, who self-identify as independent or hyper-independent, find safety in healthy relationships. Your wounds from past relationships may have been nurtured, instead of healed, to help you to show up as your own version of strength and not experience hurt and pain again. If you have embodied independence as a badge of honor, you have to learn a new version of strength to help in connecting with others. Not only can that support in your healing journey be provided through individual therapy, regardless if you are single, dating, or married, but also couple therapy.

Or maybe it's your "once-so-sweet" child who is acting out or fearful and stressed all the time. Problems in school, lack of focus, and behavioral changes can all be part of stress, depression, or anxiety - not your parenting! Stressed out? Overwhelmed? Wondering how to find your way back to a life you enjoy living instead of just going through the motions? As adult
women
we tend to take on too much and put everyone and everything before ourselves. We often feel depleted and want life to be different, but we keep doing the same thing. As a college student, stress and unhealthy relationships become your norm. As a teenager, insecurities, stress, and social media put you on a path filled with anxiety, depression, and self doubt. I'd like to help you get back on track, find some inner peace amidst all the chaos, and have fun along the way.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
