I focus my work on individuals, couples and families where I encourage the inclusion of resources in the therapy or through exploration of genograms and family of origin issues.
After working with adolescents in various settings in my early career, I recognized the need to utilize the family and other support systems to affect more powerful and lasting change. I worked in several school settings where I developed systemic interventions that included family therapy, community outreach and service. I linked with the programs and universities training masters and PhD level clinicians in MFT. Upon retirement from the schools, I have continued seeing clients in private practice, where I now work with a diverse group of dedicated, energetic clinicians with shared commitment to positive outcomes.

Therefore, I am looking forward to seeing adults, couples, and families to explore how we can improve your most cherished relationships.
Hello! My name is Lina. I am a mom to 3 teens and a marriage veteran of 19 yrs from Texas. I have lived in South Carolina for 3 years where I have been pursuing a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in systemic sex therapy. What is sex therapy? You're a PPC. You're either a partner, parent, or caregiver. You're exhausted, and trying to find help for a partner, spouse, or young male. You care so much and want to see them do their best but are wondering if it's attainable. They've got so much potential, and you want things to work, but are unsure of where to turn next. You want help navigating how to get the most out of your relationship, your relationship with them, or their own lives. You need to know that someone speaks the language, and that someone can assist with getting you all back on track.

I serve as a collaborative partner to help you feel safe as you work to achieve your goals.
Life is often hard, no matter who you are. The story of our lives are filled with moments and seasons of challenge, change, and confusion. Life is filled with many deeply transformative experiences, for both good and bad. Thus, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Especially if we feel like there are few people who can offer meaningful help. Fortunately, life also offers significant positive growth and healing opportunities. These opportunities can create a pathway, orienting us toward the direction we want to go. That's when we begin to better position ourselves to experience the outcomes in life we hope to achieve.

If you’re constantly worrying about running out of money, or if it feels impossible to calmly discuss your finances with your spouse, I encourage you to call or email me today.
In this world, money matters. If you don’t have a good grip on your money, or if you feel very anxious when you try to plan your financial future, that’s going to take a huge toll on your life. Your health may suffer, your relationships may suffer, and you might even make worse financial decisions and lose a lot of your money as a result. In my work as a therapist, I’ve seen how our money issues can affect our whole life, which is why I decided to become a financial therapist for people in South Carolina and North Carolina.

Believe it or not, guys are coming to therapy. And the most shocking part is they wind up liking it and coming back. Let's face it, most men aren't taught how to figure out what we are thinking and feeling. Therapy can help raise your emotional intelligence in a pretty painless way. These days we are all recognizing that a solid grasp on emotional understanding goes a long way towards creating happiness. I am trained in couples therapy and really enjoy working with couples, too.

Treatment usually includes exploring your values, reevaluating your relationship with pain, and working together through exposures to triggers and emotions.
Are you someone who feels like nothing is working? Someone who feels like no matter what they try, their pain seems to keep getting worse? Pain like anxiety, sadness, low self esteem. Or obsessions, bad body image, trauma, guilt? Pain does not discriminate, and neither should treatment. I love working with people who are too smart for their own good. People who know what they are struggling with, but just can't move past it. People who know exactly what to do in Balder's Gate, but can't seem to figure out this coping thing.

As a specialist in relationships, I help individuals, couples, and families thrive in connection.
Do you feel alone, invisible, and unimportant, like the person you love is rarely there for you emotionally: so you pursue your partner and even have occasional outbursts just to try to get through to them? Do you feel overwhelmed, like no matter what you do it is never good enough to please the person you love: so you defend yourself, shut down, or turn away in your relationship? Are you feeling frustrated and stuck, like there is no way you can get through to the person you care about? Are you feeling depressed and anxious, and the problems in your relationship seem to make it worse? You don't have to stay stuck. There is hope.

For that reason, in our work together, I place a high value on the relationship we develop together.
Life experiences can shatter our world. It can leave us feeling angry, alone, broken, defeated, and sometimes even ashamed. When was the last time you felt like yourself? As a person-centered systemic therapist, I take a non-pathologizing approach when working with my clients. I will not see you as "sick" or "crazy," but explore the systems/environment you are part of and how it contributes to the formation of the problem. I focus on your strengths, internal and external resources, values, and principles.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
