I'm a retired Air Force Veteran. As a counselor I have experience working with substance use disorders, intense family services and an array of mental health concerns to include depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, ADHD, adjustment disorder, and interpersonal problems. I have been trained in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I work with teens, young adults, adults, and seniors. I embrace a client centered approach, focusing on developing rapport and strong clinical relationships with clients.

I have several approaches to addressing the needs of individuals, couples, and families. These approaches address a wide range of mental, emotional, and health issues. Common issues include depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship issues. After assessment I suggest which approaches would be most beneficial to long term resolution. Therapy may involve traditional therapy, Meta Consciousness, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Matrix Reimprinting (MR), Ericksonian Hypnotherapy or a combination of all.

People like yourself most often work with me when they are having difficulty moving past a tragedy, find themselves feeling stuck due to personal choices and/or unforeseen life events, or experiencing relationship difficulties and are unsure how to move forward. As a therapist, I hope to provide a haven where my clients can express themselves without judgment. One of the reasons I became a therapist is due to therapists that have helped me through difficult times in my life. I hope for my client to see the strength within them to learn and grow every day. I want my client to realize that we do not have to be owned by our anxious thoughts or the shame we feel. We all have so much we can learn about ourselves. I hope to have a client willing to work on the problem solving skills and self awareness they have learned through therapy every day of their lives.

I have thirty years of experience working with children and adolescents as well as ten years of experience working with adults. My specialties include grief, anxiety, depression, divorce, relationship issues, parenting, and school-related issues. I believe play is the natural medium of communication and work with young children age eight and older. I was previously registered as a play and music therapist. I am very open, authentic, calm and optimistic in all of my work. I am present and accepting of what is brought into the counseling room; I create a safe space for all.

My clients struggle with balancing family, friends, work, hobbies and inner peace. My clients all want the same thing: To live their lives doing what they love and being their best so they also have the strength to be there for others who need them. My clients struggle with negative emotions and how to deal with them. A lot of my clients have irrational, negative thoughts about themselves, others and the world in general. These thoughts are present but my clients may not realize their impact. They are dynamic, intelligent and human. Humans are vulnerable and sometimes need someone to listen and care. I am here.

I specialize in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) techniques for a variety of mood and personality disorders. I help people work out the barriers to their goals by teaching techniques that are specific to clients' needs.

Howard Malpass is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Supervisor (LPC-S), and Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) who has over 30 years of experience in the mental health field. Howard's initial 5 years of counseling were as a substance abuse counselor in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the military, he worked as a counselor and clinical supervisor in the substance use disorder and behavioral health fields. Howard has worked with adolescents in a children's home environment (using mainly experiential therapy), as well as with individuals, couples, and families, and many more.
