If you, your child, your teen, or your loved one is suffering from depression, anxiety , attention deficit issues, or other brain related challenges, this therapeutic intervention can be very effective and long-lasting.
We are in challenging times, and we are all experiencing some level of discomfort in adjusting to life circumstances. However, we are also individuals, and our brains express emotions differently from one person to the next. My clinical focus is to work with balancing your mind, using the qEEG and neurofeedback, a noninvasive therapeutic intervention, as I help you create an individual treatment plan to promote healthy thinking, which will decrease your unwanted feelings. Our brains want to be balanced! This therapy creates a relaxed state of mind, almost like creating a good memory, which aids in the brain's ability to heal.

Sometimes we just know that we need to talk – and are ready to get to it. Sometimes we only know we need to do something, but what that may be remains unclear. Other times, we may be a parent or a partner who knows someone needs help, though they may not yet be ready to verbalize their feelings about this. Sometimes that is even true for ourselves. Whichever it is, you are here because you are ready to take a step toward hope.

For many years I have enjoyed offering individual, couple, family, and group therapy to clients working on depth issues to achieve intrapsychic and behavioral change as well as improved relationships with others. The goal is not only resolution of relationship, behavioral, and emotional distress, but also discovery of personal meaning in life. Relationship counseling includes relationship to self as well as to others. Couples counseling includes coupling at all stages and with all types of couples. My counseling theory of practice is based primarily in family systems, experiential, and client centered counseling concepts. See www.watereecounseling.com

All of us deserve to savor what life has to offer to the fullest extent possible. Many experience that journey as compromised by difficult transitions or painful circumstances in their lives, threatening to rob them of their joy. These blockages may come from events in the present such as loss of a loved one or a deteriorating relationship; or they may result from earlier events that have left wounds/scars unhealed. We provide individual, group, and family sessions to help create awareness and understanding of how to get back to 'Me'. We explore issues and allow clients to choose to heal mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my bio. I have been providing counseling for over 25 years. I know it is difficult to let someone into your life and talk about your personal information. I work hard to create that environment. I work primarily with those 18 to 99 years old addressing such issues as anxiety , depression, trauma, fertility, relationship and end-of-life issues.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
