Update 9/1/22- At this time I am only taking the following types of clients: First Responders and mental health counselors. Practicing clinicians know well that doing this challenging work means our own feelings, our counter-transference experiences will arise. How do we function as self monitoring professionals? One way is to know when to seek therapy for ourselves. When we work on our own issues, we provide better care for our clients. I have been grateful for many opportunities to provide consultation and psychotherapy for other clinicians. If I can be of help to you, please reach out.

As a young girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I got my teaching certificate and then a degree in counseling and guidance. Increasingly, the field of psychology captured my attention. My training focused on children and families which led to working with couples. In my work with children, I developed expertise in the areas of trauma and pediatric illnesses and led to trauma with adults and to work in end-of-life issues. The field of psychology has changed so much! 40 years ago people attended therapy for years. Now people can utilize the tools and strategies the therapy can provide in fewer than five sessions.
My 50 years of experience in the behavioral change and personal growth and potential field has afforded many experiences in many facilities, currently a private practice setting. My therapeutic approach is multifaceted, focused on solutions. Psychophysiology is another area of emphasis for me and I address this with Biofeedback, Neurofeedback and Passive Infrared Hemoencephalogrophy, procedures effective for anxiety, stress mangaement, chronic pain, ADD, and optimal performance.
Negative self thoughts, trauma, and the fear of stigma can often lead to hiding parts of ourselves. When there is an imbalance between our inner selves and what we present to the world around us, it can cause us to experience feelings of anxiety, depression, guilt and shame. It can feel impossible to imagine a life that isn't overshadowed by these feelings. My goal is to assist you in your journey toward becoming self empowered to address the barriers that have held you back for so long from living as your authentic self.
I have experience with individuals at all ages and all walks of life. I have worked with children with special needs, adults with developmental disabilities, the LGBTQ+ community, those with substance use issues, and more. I have worked to ensure that I am a well-rounded therapist who can draw from my experiences across multiple settings. I see clients via telehealth in Georgia and South Carolina.

Life is constantly changing & pressing on us, leading to stress, and calling for our growth. Rather than looking for acceptance or healing from others, it's important to look inward. This understanding of who we are & how we operate eases stress & peaceful life transitions. Science verifies that changing our thinking, feeling & behaviors improves the quality of our life. I specialize in connecting people deeply with themselves, decreasing suffering from anxiety, depression, family/relational conflict, grief, chronic pain, panic attacks, low self-esteem and work/school burdens.
Whitney Hughes and Blue Mind Mental Health, LLC love helping and connecting with people. Stressed out, anxious, angry, lack of communication, depressed, over-scheduled, and overwhelmed are daily themes in my practice and the people I work with. Our lives ebb and flow and at times having a professional outside your closest circle to support you while you navigate can be extremely helpful. I am currently also accepting mental health and emotional wellness coaching clients. I also infuse the power of breathwork into our work together when deemed appropriate.
