I specialize in working with adult females searching for personal empowerment, inner peace and self acceptance. None of us are immune to life struggles, fears and insecurities. It is not the challenges we face that define us, rather, how we cope with challenges. We are all on this journey together. Do you have the strength and courage to embrace your fantastically flawed humanity? I strive to create a warm and supportive therapy environment. I will challenge you and teach you to trust your inner voice and access your infinite supply of insight, wisdom and power. You already have the answers, it is just a matter of accessing them.

We all deserve to live a happy, productive life -- to have a little fun every now and then. While life can't always be fun, with the right coping mechanisms and cognitive tools, we can address even the toughest times with positivity and confidence. It is my goal to teach my clients how to live their most positive lives, no matter what the circumstance or issue: marriage and family problems, anxiety, depression, ADD and ADHD (children and adults), blended family matters, sexual issues, PTSD, and military-family dynamics.

EMDR-trained therapist who also integrates a Christian counseling approach when appropriate. You may have felt broken by painful life experiences. After such experiences, your feelings and/or life changed. We experience terrible situations or moments sometimes in life. Events like that have a significant influence on us, sometimes even severely. Some of those interactions alter how we feel on the inside and how we interact with others. These moments can wreak havoc on life without our conscious awareness of its roots. It's time to figure out how you got to this place and pull that root up so you can feel whole.

My desire is to provide a non-judgmental environment that allows you to express yourself freely and openly. I am genuine and supportive, but can be direct and challenge you to adapt your thinking when necessary. I strive for my clients to feel more focused, emotionally regulated, and confident. My approach emphasizes cognitive-behavioral techniques focusing on improving coping skills, habits to manage stress, anger, & depression. I am a believer in the client's power and resiliency to heal themselves from an outdated belief system as well as their own mental, emotional and spiritual challenges. I am merely a guide on your journey.

You wake up in the morning and the pain is still there. You feel like you might never recover from the loss, the betrayal, the estrangement, the old wounds. You just want to shake the anxiety, the depression, the feeling that you aren't functioning well. And your efforts to do it alone haven't been working. I offer deep and compassionate listening and use powerful, evidence-based methods like EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, TAT, Gottman relationship counseling, mindfulness and nature-based healing.

If you (or others you care about or are responsible for) are wondering why you behave the way you do, an assessment with psychological testing might provide the needed explanations. I do assessments and psychological evaluations aimed at determining if there is some dysfunction, and if so, suggest treatment plans to ameliorate the problems identified. PLEASE NOTE: After many years of providing comprehensive psychological services, including assessment and psychotherapy, I NO LONGER OFFER COUNSELING or PSYCHOTHERAPY. I just provide assessments, e.g., for ADHD or bipolar disorder, and evaluations.

Dr. Goldberg was trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment used to treat a number of mental health disorders, in which research has demonstrated effectiveness. The concept behind CBT is that our experiences impact the way we think about our environment. Our thoughts influence and at times dictate our behaviors. If we examine the thoughts, understand where they come from, then we can change our behavior and ultimately how we feel. In addition to current thoughts, behaviors, and feelings it’s sometimes necessary to take a deeper dive into one’s unconscious to grow and find peace.

Research indicates that the most important factor in a successful outcome in therapy is a positive connection with the counselor where you feel empathy, compassion, and no judgment. My goal is to provide that safe confidential environment where you can share your story as we collaborate to work toward a more healthy "you" and healthier relationships. There is no one else like you emotionally, physically, spiritually or mentally. It can be an exciting journey learning to connect with yourself and others authentically and with an open heart.

I believe growth happens at the intersection of awareness, education, and motivation/willingness to change. With a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and respect, I hope to provide a non-judgmental environment where you can feel a sense of honesty and accountability. My goal is to increase self-awareness to identify and challenge unwanted patterns that keep you stuck in the maze of your own emotions and self-doubt. I also believe it’s essential to look at the impacts of early attachment and family dynamics on your self-concept to see what influences have shaped the person you are today: the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Attentive help. Because you matter. Do you wish your problems would just go away - that life would get better? Do you feel lost or trapped? Are you angry or just tired of the status quo? Have loved ones behaved badly giving you problems, confusion, or chaos? Maybe you have a few behavioral regrets. You may feel conflicted from within or beset from without, but frustration and turmoil do not have to dominate your life. It can seem overwhelming to talk about your problems to risk ending up feeling unheard and ultimately without much support - or judged. I get all of this. I hear you.

I believe that the core of effective therapy is in our relationship. Without that relationship, it is difficult for true progress and healing to occur. It is very important to me that we can work together to help you live your best life. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and my style is unique. I understand that the fast paced life we all live in is not always conducive to spending lots of time in therapy. Therefore, I like to equip every person who comes into my office with the skills, confidence and competence to tackle whatever life throws your way.

How can I find a therapist in Beaufort County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
